BLESSED IN ALL YOU DO
Psalm 1:1–3 (ESV)
1Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers;
2but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.
3He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.
God wants you to be BLESSED. He created you to not only walk in blessing, but in turn to be a blessing.
First mention of blessings in Scripture
Gen 1:22 “And God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth.”
Gen 1:28 And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
Gen 2:3 So God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it God rested from all his work that he had done in creation.
You and I were created to receive His blessing. To steward His blessing. To trust in His blessing.
Three Things You Should know about Blessing...
1) BLESSING IS FOUND IN POSTURE, NOT POSITION
12 Now the Lord said to Abram, “Go from your country and your kindred and your father’s house to the land that I will show you. 2 And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. 3 I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” (Ge 12:1–3)
Remember: A blessing is a divine favor on a person, place or thing that causes prosperity
Ge 12:1–3 is the first mention in scripture of a blessing upon an individual
There was something about Abraham that God saw. He was a man who would posture himself before the Lord to receive the blessing he was created for.
Ps 1 David offers three Positions that keep you from being blessed
- Walking in counsel wicked
- Standing in the way of sinners
- Sitting in the seat of scoffers
If blessing is divine favor that results in prosperity. What is a curse? A curse is more than a loss of goods, it's a failure within your spirit.
Scripture teaches there is both blessings and curses.
If you want to walk into blessing, walk away from a bad position, and align your posture to receive the blessing you were created for.
2) BLESSINGS ARE SET, NOT JUST SPOKEN
30 As soon as Isaac had finished blessing Jacob, when Jacob had scarcely gone out from the presence of Isaac his father, Esau his brother came in from his hunting. 31 He also prepared delicious food and brought it to his father. And he said to his father, “Let my father arise and eat of his son’s game, that you may bless me.” 32 His father Isaac said to him, “Who are you?” He answered, “I am your son, your firstborn, Esau.” 33 Then Isaac trembled very violently and said, “Who was it then that hunted game and brought it to me, and I ate it all before you came, and I have blessed him? Yes, and he shall be blessed.” 34 As soon as Esau heard the words of his father, he cried out with an exceedingly great and bitter cry and said to his father, “Bless me, even me also, O my father!” 35 But he said, “Your brother came deceitfully, and he has taken away your blessing.” 36 Esau said, “Is he not rightly named Jacob? For he has cheated me these two times. He took away my birthright, and behold, now he has taken away my blessing.” Then he said, “Have you not reserved a blessing for me?” 37 Isaac answered and said to Esau, “Behold, I have made him lord over you, and all his brothers I have given to him for servants, and with grain and wine I have sustained him. What then can I do for you, my son?” 38 Esau said to his father, “Have you but one blessing, my father? Bless me, even me also, O my father.” And Esau lifted up his voice and wept. (Ge 27:30–41)
Have we lowered our understanding of what a blessing truly is?
A BLESSING IS SET IN MOTION
- It is an impartation of Substance
- It is an impartation of Authority
3) A BLESSING CAN BE BORROWED NOT JUST BESTOWED
25 As soon as Rachel had borne Joseph, Jacob said to Laban, “Send me away, that I may go to my own home and country. 26 Give me my wives and my children for whom I have served you, that I may go, for you know the service that I have given you.” 27 But Laban said to him, “If I have found favor in your sight, I have learned by divination that the Lord has blessed me because of you. 28 Name your wages, and I will give it.” 29 Jacob said to him, “You yourself know how I have served you, and how your livestock has fared with me. 30 For you had little before I came, and it has increased abundantly, and the Lord has blessed you wherever I turned. But now when shall I provide for my own household also?”
(Ge 30:25–30).
It is possible to reap the benefit of a blessing by association with a blessed person
2 Thoughts On Bestowed vs Borrowed Blessings
- A bestowed blessing is better than a borrowed blessing
- A Person with a bestowed blessing walks different from those who simply borrow
A blessed person walks through adversity yet still prospers. You can’t keep them down. Their head remains high. If you’re blessed, then you're blessed! No matter what!
They value the blessing over the results!
