WELCOME EVERYONE! We are glad you are here today!

Feel free to help yourself to our hospitality table. We also have a slushy machine downstairs. Please use the cup lids to prevent spills in the Sanctuary. Thank you!

Victory Fellowship BIBLE STUDY meets on Wednesdays at 10am and 7pm for a study of the Pastoral Epistles and Philemon. All are welcome.

Victory Fellowship participates in the Barberton Area Community Ministries monthly donation needs. For March we will collect Canned Veggies and Side Dishes. Egg cartons and plastic bags always needed.

For March the LAST SUNDAY of the month will be PAPER TOWEL Sunday. If you would like to, on that day you can donate paper towels to the church. Thank you!

We donate the change collected in the blue jar to the Esther Ryan Shoe Fund. We have sent $1077 to date!

We have changed the wireless internet service provider for our church. We now have AT&T fiber. Please see Pastor Rod for the password if you would like to use your wireless devices in the building.

OFFERING ENVELOPES and PRAYER REQUEST CARDS are provided for your convenience in a rack at the Welcome Center area as you enter the church. If you are a First Time guest, please do not feel any obligation to participate in the offering. We only ask that you be sure to sign the attendance pad when it is passed around.

TITHE.LY - If you can’t be here in person, you can now give to our church online or from a mobile app when you are out of town or on vacation.

HEALING SERVICES at Victory Fellowship generally occur on the 4th Sunday of each month. We practice laying on of hands, prayer, and anointing with oil for concerns that need God’s healing intervention.
YOU MAY REQUEST OIL ANOINTING AND PRAYER AT ANY TIME – NOT JUST THE 4th SUNDAY.

Saturday, April 24th at 3pm is the day to get out your pots and spices for the 7th Annual Victory Fellowship Chili Cook-off. Come to fellowship, eat well, and have fun! Sign-up sheets for Judges; for those who think they can challenge Pastor Rod’s remarkable chili with their own; and for other food and desserts will be sent around.

Many thanks to Mark Data who volunteered to the ministry of keeping our church clean.

Please consider using the GIDEONS CARD RACK in the Welcome Area to send cards to friends and relatives. Not only will you be encouraging them, you will be sending God’s Word around the world.

We are in the Bible App. Follow along. Take Notes. Reference the bible.

1st John 5:4 For every child of God defeats this evil world, and we achieve this victory through our faith.
1st Corinthians 15:57 But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ.

ABOUT US: WE ARE VICTORY FELLOWSHIP
1) We are a non-denominational Church. We are independent and are not affiliated with any group or organization, be it religious or other, and we welcome anyone who desires to worship God in a biblically-based, Christ-centered setting.

2) We take communion every week. We believe that our Lord Jesus Christ invites to the communion table anyone who, a) loves Jesus, b) who is repentant of their sin, and c) who desires to live peacefully with one another. There is no age or membership restriction. Parents and guardians can be the judge on whether your children know Jesus and understand these concepts.

3) We believe the Bible, both Old and New Testaments, to be God’s Holy Word. We strive to live our lives consistently with biblical teaching, and lovingly encourage others to do the same.

4) We believe in God’s triune nature – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

5) We believe salvation is found only through the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ, God’s only begotten Son, the second Person of the Trinity.

Lesson Three: Church Leadership and Government

1) GATHERING and OPENING PRAYER

2) READ / LISTEN to 1st Timothy 3:1-16
A) What are your initial impressions? Questions?
i) Are there notable differences in various translations?

3) THE LEADERSHIP SITUATION IN EPHESUS
A) The people were sexually promiscuous: they were polygamists and adulterers. Some looked down upon marriage or didn’t manage their households well if they were married. Many were drunkards and lacked reserve and dignity. They taught for financial gain. They were bringing reproach upon themselves, the church, and the cause of Christ.

4) THE DESCRIPTION OF AN OVERSEER (3:1-7)
A) Again, we see pistoV o logoV = trustworthy is the saying
i) 1st Timothy 1:15; 3:1; 4:9-10; 2nd Timothy 2:11-13; Titus 3:5-8

B) (vs. 1) episkopoi = episcopoi; presbuteroV = presbuteros
i) Overseers, Bishops, Elders, Pastors
ii) Acts 20:28; Ephesians 4:12; 2nd Timothy 2:15; 1st Peter 5:1-4

C) Forms of Church Government (see handout)

D) (vv. 2-7) What are the 14 qualities of an Elder that Paul mentions?

E)(vs. 2) aner mia gunh = aner mia gune; the husband of one wife (one woman man)

5) THE DESCRIPTION OF A DEACON (2:8-13)
A) (vs. 8) diakonoV = diakonos; Deacons. One who serves (Acts 6:1-6).

B) (vv. 8-10, 12-13) What are the 9 ingredients that Paul says are essential to a Deacon?

C) (v. 11) gunh = gune; Can be translated women or wives (Romans 16:1)
i) What 4 qualities does Paul say these women must have?

D) Personal character, again, is the basis for qualification (vv. 8-12)

6) THE DESCRIPTION OF THE CHURCH (3:14-16)
A) (vv. 14-15a) Why is Paul writing this letter?

B) (vs. 15b) How God sees the Church

C) (vs. 16) The Mystery of Godliness: How Christ relates to the Church
i) (verse 16 is part of an early hymn)

7) APPLICATION
A) Ask God to help our personal character be in line with our Christian witness, especially if we are leaders in the church. (Matthew 23:25-26; 1 Peter 1:15-16)

B) Remember that Christ is the head of the church, regardless of the type of organizational government we have. (Ephesians 5:23; Colossians 1:18)

8) WRAP UP and CLOSE IN PRAYER
