What has been your previous understanding of the following scripture? Have you previously heard it explained or understood it to mean that God had abandoned His Son? Or that He was punishing Jesus?

Pastor Jonathan explained that Jesus was quoting from Psalm 22, and in so doing was explaining how He felt, not making a statement about God. How does the following scripture support the fact that God was indeed very present with Jesus on the cross?

What was true for Jesus in this moment is true for you, too. Your Heavenly Father is close. Call out to Him. How does this resonate with you?

No matter your experience with your earthly father, your Heavenly Father is perfect! What "role" do you most often find yourself attributing to God (father, mother, brother, friend, king, shepherd, etc.)?

The presence of pain is not the absence of God! The presence of God is not the absence of pain. How do you respond to this? How would your life be different if you were to live like you believe this? What would change?
