What makes the difference that shifts my faith being a part of my life to it being the point of my life?
It is calling. Each one of us has a calling in our lives. In fact, we have more than one and more than one type of calling.
One of the greatest stories of calling in the Bible is the story of Moses.
Exodus 2 records the incredible story of his life - a Hebrew boy saved from genocide, raised by the Pharaoh’s daughter.
There is no biblical record of his first 40 years. Entertainment has made speculations but the Bible gives a picture of a man who knew his heritage and sought to defend it by murdering an Egyptian mistreating a Hebrew slave.
He escapes for his life to Midian and lives life as a shepherd for 40 years, becoming a husband and a father.
It was here that he experienced the moment that defined his calling.
We may think that because we haven’t seen a burning bush, we haven’t had a specific call. Specific calls of God happen in the context of living out of a called life.
If He has saved you, He has called you.
I can see what I couldn’t see before.
We are called when we come to Jesus and this calling creates a context for more specific callings in our future.
Our calling is the place where we find our highest purpose and greatest satisfaction. The power of God is experienced in the will of God so we must place ourselves in His will and this will make us ready to hear Him in those specific calls.
Our calling is the place where we find our highest purpose and greatest satisfaction. The power of God is experienced in the will of God so we must place ourselves in His will and this will make us ready to hear Him in those specific calls.
Moses had a call on his life from before He was born. God had a plan for him and God has a plan for you...a general plan and a specific plan.
You can reject that plan, you can ruin that plan, or you can reduce that plan. God can renew it, restore it, or redirect it.
While you have power over your response to God’s plan, you cannot change it, you can only remove yourself from it and the blessings and purpose that go with it, as did Moses.
God has prepared you to execute His plan.
Moses had to be prepared by God. This was a process that took years.
Moses was 80 years old before he stood on the holy ground of his calling. That’s how many years it took to produce the humility that Moses would need to answer God’s call.
God will make you worthy of His calling. Every moment of your life will be preparation for God’s call if it is submitted to Him.
When God calls you, it’s so He can do something...not you.
God was delivering His people, not Moses. Moses just got to be invited into that plan. God’s specific calls are always about God’s agenda...not ours.
Usually calling is very uncomfortable.
When we think of Moses and his calling, we think of the amazing signs and wonders of God, not the difficulties and hardships associated with them.
We may ask, “why subject yourself to the specific calling of God?”
God will complete what He calls you to do.
This is where your life receives its greatest purpose and satisfaction. Moses was able to complete what God called him to do.
The people were called to the Promised Land, but they rejected it. It didn’t change God’s plan, but it was their children who received it because of their “no” to God.
Their burning bush was the river Jordan.
He will accomplish what He has called you to do. God will complete what He starts.
We spend a lot of time asking God, “What is your will for my life?” The emphasis is on us...not God. We need to be asking, “What is your will?” And end there.
