Message - "The Five Solas - Sola Fide (by Faith Alone)"
Faithful Now by Vertical Worship
Being a good person won't save you!
Nobody is good enough...not even the best person you know.
If "believing in God" was good enough to get into Heaven, even the demons would go to Heaven.
Jesus said, "Only God is good."
Jesus' death on the cross would be meaningless if simply "believing in God" was enough to go to Heaven.

If you missed last week's message, "Sola Scriptura", you can find it on YouTube:
https://youtu.be/Cvb3mrPWHIM.
Sola Scriptura means that we receive our rule of faith by scripture alone.

Sola Fide = by faith alone.
We are saved through faith alone in Jesus Christ.
When Paul is talking about the "works of the law" in Galatians 2:16, he is referring to obeying the commands of God.

All of us have broken "the law" at some point.
We can't brag about our salvation because we didn't do anything to earn it.
It is by faith that we are saved.
If we truly believe that Jesus is Lord and we proclaim that He is Lord, we will be saved. It is by faith in Jesus that we are saved.

The Church, before the reformation, believed in faith AND works (obeying the law of God and doing good deeds).
They didn't believe that "faith alone" was enough.
Simply saying the "Sinner's Prayer" is not enough.
You must also commit or surrender your life to Jesus when you pray that prayer.

If you truly put your faith in Jesus as the Lord of your life, your life will totally change. Your works, deeds, and actions will be different.

If you just "say" the prayer and it doesn't affect your life, you're no better off than before you said that prayer.

What James is saying in chapter 2, verse 17 is that when you have faith, deeds will accompany it.
If you truly love Jesus, You will leave the sinful life that you are living and bring your life into alignment with His teachings.
It takes time and it's a process.
Don't use that as an excuse to disobey Jesus.

Can you have faith without works and be saved?
Yes, there are special circumstances that someone may not have the opportunity to do good works.
~Example...the thief that gave his life to Jesus while on the cross or someone who accepts Jesus on their deathbed.

You will not find any evidence of someone being save by WORKS ALONE.
You cannot save yourself by doing enough good things because our sinfulness creates a separation between us and God.
The gap that sin causes between us and God can only be filled by faith in what the Son of God has done.

When we receive Jesus as Savior and Lord, that is an act of faith.
If we receive Jesus as Lord, now we are binding ourselves to His teaching.
Where are YOU being disobedient to the teachings of Jesus.
What can you do to fix it?

The teachings of Jesus are narrowed down to 2 things:
1. Love the Lord with all your heart, mind, soul, & strength.
That means obeying God.

2. We have to love our neighbor as ourself.
Who is our "neighbor"? EVERYBODY!

Loving your neighbor = actions!

If you have faith in Christ, you will appreciate what He has done for you so much that you won't be able to help yourself from helping your neighbor and loving other people.

If you take the great love that the Son has shown upon you and let some of it flow through to your neighbor, you will love them incredibly.
Loving your neighbor is an act of discipleship and evangelism.

We need to love people in such a way that people can see that, as a Christ-follower, we are different.
We need to be different and love our neighbors so much that they will look to the Father and praise Him.

Sola Fide (SO-la FEE-deh) = it is by faith alone that we are saved.
Sola Scriptura (SO-la skrip-TOO-rah) = it is scripture that is our sole guide in life.
The teachings of Jesus are narrowed down to 2 things:
Love the Lord with all your heart, mind, soul, & strength.
That means obeying God.
The 2nd is that we have to love our neighbor as ourself.
