Intro:
A. After weeks of talking about the HS, is it really that big of a deal, is it really that necessary?
B. God has called us to a big life, to step out of our comfort zone, to engage our mission field, to trust in the HS to do the work God has called us to do, to stir the pot & rock the boat
1. Wilderness turned to fertile
A. Isaiah 32:15 – until at last the Spirit is poured out on us from heaven. Then the wilderness will become a fertile field, and the fertile field will yield bountiful crops.
B. The HS brings a transformation in our lives
C. Wilderness living is sometimes necessary, but we don’t stay there
D. The HS nourishes us in our wilderness, not just to sustain us, but for us to also share
E. Isaiah 43 – Forget what happened before, forget the past, I am about to do something new. I’ve already started, I will make a road through your wilderness. A river of life in the middle of your brokenness.
2. Knowing God’s Presence
A. Ezekiel 39:29 – And I will never again turn my face from them, for I will pour out my Spirit upon the people of Israel. I, the Sovereign Lord, have spoken!”
B. To be honest, sometimes God’s presence seems distant
C. The HS reminds us that God is close, helps us feel His presence
D. Our prayer life takes on new meaning, and we begin to experience God personally, not a memorized prayer
E. It’s taking the time to cultivate a relationship, spending time in His presence and letting Him work it out
3. Understanding God’s Word
A. 1 Peter 1:22-23 – You were cleansed from your sins when you obeyed the truth, so now you must show sincere love to each other as brothers and sisters. Love each other deeply with all your heart. 23 For you have been born again, but not to a life that will quickly end. Your new life will last forever because it comes from the eternal, living word of God.
B. The Word of God comes alive in our spirit
C. We need to breath, speak, hear, and live the Word of God
D. John 15 says If God’s word remains in us, we can ask for anything and it will be given to us
E. We need more than an acquaintance with the Word, it needs to be taken in.
F. The HS inspired the writers, and He will inspire the readers!
4. A life turned to God
A. Ezekiel 36:25-27 – “Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean. Your filth will be washed away, and you will no longer worship idols. 26 And I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you. I will take out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart. 27 And I will put my Spirit in you so that you will follow my decrees and be careful to obey my regulations.
B. Real Spirit transformation changes from the inside out
C. 2 Cor 5 – anyone who belongs to Christ is a new person/new life
D. Ephesians 4 – put on your new nature, created to be like God
E. Romans 12 – God transforms us by changing the way we think
F. God’s perfect will for us, is to renew our minds
G. Sometimes living according to the Bible seems impossible
H. Even the Israelites could not walk with God without help, Moses interceded for them like the HS does for us!
I. Jude 24 – Now all glory to God, who is able to keep you from falling away and will bring you with great joy into his glorious presence without a single fault.
J. The Spirit transforms us, creates new life in us and helps us stay that way
