Makarios. Ashrei or blessedness. It means a sense of utter satisfaction.
The pursuit of happiness can become the perversion of happiness.
Temporary happiness can have terrible repercussions and turn on a dime.
Satan tries to short sell us and bet against us. His return is your misery and whatever destroys any possibility of receiving true happiness that can only come from God.
God’s Word gives us guidance for the pursuit of happiness - where to invest and what to avoid along the way.
David asks key questions, “Where are you going? Who are you following? Who are you walking with?”
Walks
“...does not walk in step with the wicked…”
What or who is influencing you?
Stands
“...or stands in the way that sinners take...”
When we stand in the way that sinners take, the influence of others has been adopted as personal behavior. The behavior defines who you are.
Sits
“...or sits in the company of mockers…”
A scoffer looks at those who remind you of who you were and finds them deluded and laughable. This is the “seared conscience” the Bible speaks of.
Satan not only robs you of real happiness in the present, but your happiness in the past, and the possibility of happiness in the future.
David describes genuine happiness, happiness that is compounded and grows richer day by day.
“...whose delight is in the law of the Lord…”
We find delight in the word of the Lord and use it as a guide to how we live.
Who can know the mind of God?
His mercies are new every morning.
When we meditate on God’s Word daily, its unchangeable nature exports that characteristic into our hearts and lives.
True happiness is found walking away from self-righteous, self-serving attitudes, and walking toward Jesus and toward real happiness and fulfillment.
