1 & 2 Corinthians--letters written to the Christians in Corinth from Paul
--Corinth is what we call Greece
--Major area of trade
--Cultures and practices of that or Rome and of the Greeks

All things are lawful for me...
--free-will means we can choose whatever we want, BUT...
All things are not beneficial...

Just because something is legal, it doesn’t mean it’s good for you.
--The laws are not just a set of rules. They are a way of living to protect us and others. To protect creation and those created.

New Year's Resolutions
--95% of people fail to keep them after January
--How are yours going?

In his book Renovation of the Heart, Dallas Willard writes, “the will, tiny power that it is, is very largely at the mercy of forces playing upon it from the larger self and beyond.”

Thomas Merton in his book Life and Holiness writes, “Every baptized Christian is obliged by his [or her] baptismal promises to renounce sin and to give himself [or herself] completely, without compromise, to Christ...As St. Paul reminds us, we are ‘not our own.’ We belong entirely to Christ. His Spirit has taken possession of us at baptism. We are the Temples of the Holy Spirit. Our thoughts, our actions, our desires, are by rights more his than our own.”

Through baptism, we join together in the body of Christ to walk with one another...

While we may not be able to will ourselves to keep our resolutions, our success is strengthened when we have help. In fact, 90% will succeed if someone is helping.

If you are struggling with something that is not beneficial--for you or for your community--please reach out. We are here to help and walk with you.
