Definition of a cult-a religious group that denies one or more of the fundamentals of Biblical truth, specifically it is a group that claims to be Christian, but whose teachings, if believed, would prevent someone from having a saving relationship with Jesus Christ.
Definition of a false religion-the worship of anything that is not God, including any form of religion that fails to do justice to the glory and majesty of God.
The difference between the two?
There’s not a lot of difference. False teaching is false teaching but there are a few differences between the two.
1. Cults don’t allow you to ask questions, or question their doctrine, dogma or opinions.
2. Cults strive to brainwash their people to believe without thinking.
3. Cults have a tendency to prey on the vulnerable, and outcast…appealing to them and making them feel good in order to gain their trust.
4. Hides its true purposes and expectations from recruits
5. Strictly follows the ideas of one person (sometimes a small group of people)
6. Allows the leader(s) to have different rules and expectations than the body of members
7. Closely controls the actions of members
False religions(can be called a sect) are less clearly defined or defined in several ways depending on the person or group.
False religions generally follow established religious faith or denominations doctrine, yet differ in minor beliefs.
