Has 2020 stolen your song?

In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus... Luke 2:1

--In those days, life was hard
--In those days, Israel was exhausted while they waited for a Savior
Luke 1 Context
--married to Zechariah
--no children
--very old
--Zechariah silenced when he didn't believe God
--Mary's cousin

When Mary came to visit, Elizabeth broke out into song:

Luke 1:41-44

Who is it in Christ that you are called to come near so that someone knows Jesus came near to them?

"The incarnation is in itself an unfathomable mystery, but it makes sense of everything else that the New Testament contains." --J.I. Packer

Psalms 145:18

James 4:8

Elizabeth rejoiced because God came near for her personally!

But why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? Luke 1:43

John 3:16-17

God came to take you from danger to safety...yield

God came near, is near through His Spirit and His church and is coming back for us that we experience His reality and nearness in ways that are unimaginable!
PCC BENEDICTION
May you jump into the arms of Jesus and may He push out into the world. May you be healed as you participate in the healing of others. Not because you must, but because you may. This is why we were born!
BEYOND SUNDAY
During this Advent Season, PCC is wanting to help a weary world rejoice by giving you, your family and/or friends, a daily focus to help you experience the hope, peace, joy, and love of God. Our series, A Weary World Rejoices, will focus on the 5 songs found in the Gospel of Luke. Those who sang these songs prove that in troublesome times there are still such good things to sing about God. This week we look at Elizabeth’s Song and how God is near to us.

Monday, Dec. 7 - Put your favorite Christmas song on really loud or soft and sing it out loud alone or with others. Then ponder/share how God speaks to you through this song and why you like it. If you need a song, go with O Holy Night (listen closely and you will hear where we got the title of our series from).

Tuesday, Dec. 8 - Make a list of what made you weary this year. See how many you can come up with. Then make a list of what brought you joy. Don’t worry about which list is longer. Take a moment to thank God for each list. This may be hard, but beneficial. What did making these lists help you realize?

Wednesday, Dec. 9 - Read Elizabeth’s and Mary’s Story Luke 1:26-45. What about the story stands out to you? Why do you think Elizabeth is so overjoyed Luke 1:41-45? When in your life have you ever felt similar about the Lord? Was your response similar? Why or why not?

Thursday, Dec.10 - Gary stated the following in his message : “This holiday season, I know we are weary, but we can rejoice in the truth that God is still in the business of coming near, through His Holy Spirit. No matter where you are, God is so close to you.”

What makes you believe this and what makes this hard to believe? How do these Scriptures written one thousand years apart by David (Psalm 145:8) and the brother of Jesus (James 4:8) help you to believe that God is near to YOU?

Friday, Dec. 11 - This Advent season, who is it that you are being called to come near to so that they know and experience the love of Jesus from you?

Saturday, Dec. 12 - How will you acknowledge that God is near to you today? Maybe you just declare it out loud. Or what if you wrote out a prayer of thanks; which would be your song to Him?
