We have been looking during this season at the name Immanuel and its meaning, God with us. We first saw that this was Father God’s desire to be with us. We saw that Jesus came as a God-man to show us what the Father had always desired. And today we look at the simplicity of the beautiful Christmas story.
At first glance it may seem that Mary and Joseph named Jesus something different than had been prophesied by Isaiah, when it records here in Matthew they name Him Jesus. But further inspection shows us that it is not so. Instead of just being named Immanuel which means God with us, Jesus actually was "God with us". And His name is actually Jesus the Christ, which means “the Anointed One” or Yehoshua which means “Yahweh saves.”
"Jesus Christ" is properly "Jesus the Christ." "Jesus" (2424 /Iēsoús) is His human name, as the incarnate, eternal Son of God (Mt 1:21,25, see also Lk 1:31) – the Christ, the divine Messiah (the second Person of the holy Trinity). [Christ (His title) means "the Anointed One" (the eternal pre-incarnate, Logos, Jn 1:1-18).]

The absolutely glorious and amazing thing is that we now have the wonderful privilege of becoming one with Him. We now understand, through the revelation of the gospel, that this precious baby born to us, this son that was given to us, came to save us!
The light, life and love that was born that night came for us!
But the mystery kept unfolding. Paul says what was hidden for ages, but was reveal to him and in us, was that Christ wasn’t just coming to be God among us, but to be God in us!

So the mystery revealed was not just Christ among us, or God with us but God in us! The fullness of God dwelled in Christ, and now we have been made complete in Him. Now Christ in us is the hope of glory. The overshadowing of Holy Spirit in Mary and bringing forth the Christ, the Mary Miracle, is exactly what has happened in us. We have been overshadowed by Holy Spirit, and Christ has been formed in us!
