BENEDICTION
SERMON: “Abide In Me” John 15:1-11

“What does it mean to ‘abide’ in Christ?”

1. You Are Mindful

2. You Are Fruitful

3. You Are Prayerful

4. You Are Joyful

“The greatest blessing we can know is to abide in Christ.”
APPLICATION QUESTIONS:
1. The imagery of a vine is a common one in Scripture. Review the following texts and discuss what point this image is expressing, and why this image is so powerful as presented by Jesus.
Psalm 80:8-17; Isaiah 5:1-2, 7; Hosea 10:1.
2. Pruning is an essential part of maintaining and enhancing a vine’s productivity and vibrant growth. How has this process been applied to your own spiritual life? What are some aspects of your own life that necessarily should be cut away or trimmed in order to re-vitalize your own spiritual growth?
3. Although “fruit” is not specifically defined in this text, what are some reasonable expectations of what this thought would include? Read the following texts as you respond: Matthew 3:8, 7:15-20; Galatians 5:22-26, 6:7-9; Philippians 1:9-11; James 2:14-26; 2 Peter 1:5-8. What are the evidences of “fruit” in your own life?
4. What is the role of obedience in this text? Why is it so crucial to our walk with the Lord and our own fruit-bearing? Read the following Scriptures and discuss the principles they include: Leviticus 25:18; Deuteronomy 26:16; Joshua 11:15; John 14:15; 1 Peter 1:14-16; 1 John 5:3. What is the cost of disobedience or not abiding in the Lord in our text of John 15?
5. What is a single take-away for you and how will your life be changed by today’s sermon?
