APPLICATION QUESTIONS:
1. What exhortation does Jeremiah provide to the exiles in verses 5-6? What does this imply regarding the length of the stay for them in Babylon? How might this principle be applied today?
1. What exhortation does Jeremiah provide to the exiles in verses 5-6? What does this imply regarding the length of the stay for them in Babylon? How might this principle be applied today?
2. Verse 7 contains a “shocking” command unto the exiles—what is it, and why is this so shocking? Remember, the exiles are in Babylon under the rule of Nebuchadnezzar who essentially terrorized any and all enemies around him. Read Matthew 5:43-48; 1 Timothy 2:1-3; Titus 3:1-2 as you respond. What is the practical implication of this for us today?
3. Review the following texts and discuss their implications for us as believers and our subsequent attachment to this world and its things. Ephesians 2:12-13, 19; Philippians 3:20; Hebrews 11:16; 1 Peter 2:11.
4. The exiles were likely very tempted to fall into a state of despair and discouragement; yet, God met them at their place of need. What encouragement and hope does God provide in this account?
5. What is a single take-away for you and how will your life be changed by today’s sermon?
