It’s Time For A Breakthrough
The Holy Spirit will not work without the Word.
The Word will not activate without the Holy Spirit.
John 6:63
“It is the Spirit who gives life; the
flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.”
1 John 5:4-8
4 For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world--our faith. 5 Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? 6 This is He who came by water and blood--Jesus Christ; not only by water, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who bears witness, because the Spirit is truth. 7 For there are three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one. 8 And there are three that bear witness on earth: the Spirit, the water, and the blood; and these three agree as one.
If you don’t mix the Word and the Spirit you will never have a total breakthrough.
Proverbs 11:1
“Dishonest scales are an abomination to the LORD, But a just weight is His delight.”
To much Word and not enough Spirit and you will puff up.
To much Spirit and not enough Word you will blow up!
With the Spirit and the Word you will grow up.
2 Corinthians 10:3-5
3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. 4 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, 5 casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ,
2 Samuel 5:17
Now when the Philistines heard that they had anointed David king over Israel, all the Philistines went up to search for David. And David heard of it and went down to the stronghold.
A stronghold is a strongly fortified defensive structure.
A stronghold is a safe place.
Satan has established strongholds in too many Christians lives.
A stronghold is a faulty thinking pattern based on lies and deception.
Deception is one of the primary weapons of the devil.
Deceptions are the building blocks for strongholds.
What a strongholds does is cause us to think in ways which block us from God's best.
2 Samuel 5:18-20
18 The Philistines also went and deployed themselves in the Valley of Rephaim. 19 So David inquired of the LORD, saying, "Shall I go up against the Philistines? Will You deliver them into my hand?" And the LORD said to David, "Go up, for I will doubtless deliver the Philistines into your hand."
20 So David went to Baal Perazim, and David defeated them there; and he said, "The LORD has broken through my enemies before me, like a breakthrough of water." Therefore he called the name of that place Baal Perazim.
God is described as Baal-Perazim, or the God of Breakthroughs.
Baal was a philistine god.
Many believe Perazim means breakthrough.
It really means broken through.
David wanted his enemies to know this is where Baal was broken through.
3 keys to your breakthrough.
Mark 2:1-12
1 And again He entered Capernaum after some days, and it was heard that He was in the house. 2 Immediately many gathered together, so that there was no longer room to receive them, not even near the door. And He preached the word to them. 3 Then they came to Him, bringing a paralytic who was carried by four men.4 And when they could not come near Him because of the crowd, they uncovered the roof where He was. So when they had broken through, they let down the bed on which the paralytic was lying. 5 When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, "Son, your sins are forgiven you." 6 And some of the scribes were sitting there and reasoning in their hearts, 7 "Why does this Man speak blasphemies like this? Who can forgive sins but God alone?" 8 But immediately, when Jesus perceived in His spirit that they reasoned thus within themselves, He said to them, "Why do you reason about these things in your hearts? 9 "Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, 'Your sins are forgiven you,' or to say, 'Arise, take up your bed and walk'? 10 "But that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins"--He said to the paralytic, 11 "I say to you, arise, take up your bed, and go to your house." 12 Immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went out in the presence of them all, so that all were amazed and glorified God, saying, "We never saw anything like this!"
This passage holds the keys to unlock the secret of your breakthrough.
We don’t have to live in bondage.
We don’t have to live in despair.
We don’t have to live in worry and fear.
We don’t have to live in lack.
We don’t have to live in depression.
1. Come to Jesus Desperately.
He is paralyzed, completely unable to do anything on his own: the very definition of desperation.
Jesus rewards desperation.
2. Come to Jesus humbly.
Mark 5:21-23
21 Now when Jesus had crossed over again by boat to the other side, a great multitude gathered to Him; and He was by the sea. 22 And behold, one of the rulers of the synagogue came, Jairus by name. And when he saw Him, he fell at His feet 23 and begged Him earnestly, saying, "My little daughter lies at the point of death. Come and lay Your hands on her, that she may be healed, and she will live."
Humility is coming to Jesus in desperation, but acknowledging that you do not deserve His mercy.
The book of Proverbs is full of warnings against the proud.
Proverbs 16:18
“Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall.”
Proverbs 11:2
“When pride comes, then comes shame; But with the humble is wisdom.”
Proverbs 18:2
“A fool has no delight in understanding, But in expressing his own heart.”
James 4:6
“But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.””
3. Come to Jesus Obediently.
Before this man could be healed of his paralysis, he had to first do what Jesus said.
He said to the paralytic, 11 "I say to you, arise, take up your bed, and go to your house."
The one final barrier separating this man from his healing was obedience.
In our own lives, we often come to Jesus, and we beg Him for victory.
We beg Him for a breakthrough, but then comes the hard part.
He asks us to do something we’ve never done before or He asks us to do something that’s going to hurt.
Suddenly, we hesitate.
Obedience is necessary for breakthrough.
God is the God of breakthroughs.
He is Baal-Perazim.
He can give us victory!
He can give us the breakthrough!
