There is reward when we explore God's Word.

There are hundreds of people in the Bible. Some of them only appear once. But the Bible is God's inspired, perfect Word, so nothing is in there by accident, and some of the most obscure characters have some of the most fascinating stories.
hey
There is relief when we acknowledge our weaknesses.

There is something incredibly appealing about a guy who begins his only moment in Scripture with humility and an admission of all the things he doesn't know. Check out how other translations deal with verses 2-3:

Christian Standard Bible:
I am more stupid than any other person, and I lack a human’s ability to understand. I have not gained wisdom, and I have no knowledge of the Holy One.

New Living Translation:
I am too stupid to be human, and I lack common sense. I have not mastered human wisdom, nor do I know the Holy One.

Agur pivots quickly to what he does know (more on that in a minute), but never underestimate the power of a winsome witness. The world won't be won to Jesus by know-it-alls.
There is revelation when we recognize God's Son (v. 4)
Who has ascended to heaven and come down? Who has gathered the wind in his fists? Who has wrapped up the waters in a garment? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is his name, and what is his son’s name? Surely you know!

Keep in mind Agur was writing close to a thousand years before the birth of Christ. Prophecy about the Messiah was a major topic of discussion among God’s chosen people. Anticipating the coming Messiah was the focus of the Hebrew people – and still is! But before Agur, there was barely a hint in any of the ancient writings that the Messiah would be the Son of God. Agur asked, “What is the name of God’s son?” Asking this kind of question at this point in history shows Agur was a true prophet.

And don't miss this: knowing God's son more than makes up for your lack of knowledge in every other area!
There is refuge when we affirm God's authority. (v. 5-6)
Every word of God proves true; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him. Do not add to his words, lest he rebuke you and you be found a liar.

The Bible was written by human authors under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Whether it's the one chapter we have from Agur or the thirteen books from Paul, every word proves true. We can trust it!
