As we approach this study of “The Sermon on the Mount” we have an important question we need to answer:

Why should we take these words to heart?

Jesus has authority because he is the Promised Messiah.

The genealogy reveal Jesus is the Messiah. (1:1-17)

“And Jesse the father of David the
King…” v. 6

The events following his birth reveal he is the King. (Matthew 1:18-23)

The Fulfillment of the prophecies demonstrate that Jesus is the Messiah King. (Matthew 1-3)

John the Baptist message declares Jesus is the Promised Messiah King. (Matthew 3:1–12)

The temptations of Jesus and his victory over all temptations make his divine uniqueness known. (Matthew 4:1–11)

The baptism of Jesus displays the full godhead at work in the story of redemption! (Matthew 3:13-17)


How should we respond to the sermon on the mount?

We should— listen, learn and live!
