Baptizo (Greek) means to plunge, dunk, immerse
Baptizo was an everyday word just like ekklesia

Church history
- In the New Testament, early church we see that new believers are baptized
- Tertullian noted that churches were baptizing babies and that it was a new practice
- Augustine believed that infant baptism removed sin children were born with
- Reformers said that infant baptism wasn’t for salvation or removing of sin
- It was the new testament sign for circumcision
- Anabaptists believed that baptism in the New Testament was for believers

We are looking at what the Bible says about baptism, because we are Scripture lead

How are we saved?
- Confess Jesus is Lord
- Believe in His death and resurrection
In the new covenant we go through a circumcision
Not by hand
- Paul tells us though that this is not by hands
- This isn’t a physical circumcision, it is spiritual
- A physical act then isn’t what cuts away our sinful nature
By faith
- Then Paul says that baptism is through faith
- Infant baptist simply can’t be a New Testament circumcision because it requires faith

hey
Baptism becomes an external expression of an internal reality
If baptism gives us salvation, then I can accomplish it on my own. This is not the gospel.
hey
Baptism is a picture of salvation received, not hoped for
hey
The church has the responsibility to confirm the confession of believers

Baptism identifies a person as a now ambassador of Jesus
This means then that your baptism should be done by the church you intend to belong to

-----------------------------------------

Who is baptism for? Baptism is for believers

What if I was baptized as a baby? You can affirm your parents hope that you would live a life of faith by being baptized as the Bible describes
If baptism was before salvation, it wasn’t baptism
