If we assume that Jesus was using the term “brethren” in his usual way, to refer to believers, then he was teaching that genuine disciples of Christ will create a new community that does not exclude the poor, the members of other races, or the powerless, and does deal with their needs sacrificially and practically.
Tim Keller, “Generous Justice”
Tim Keller, “Generous Justice”
Anyone who possesses saving faith immediately begins to do good works. We are not justified by our works in any way whatsoever, but we are justified to good works. Thus, the ultimate test by which we will be determined to be in Christ or not is the presence or absence of fruit. On the last day, our professions of faith will be judged by the works we have performed. Again, we are not justified by our works, but if we do not have works, that is clear evidence that we do not have saving faith.
