Text: Galatians 5:16-25

In Galatians 5:16-25, Paul describes the battle that exists in every Christian between the flesh — our desire to be our own master — and the Spirit — God at work within us, making us new. Choosing to live by the Spirit results in a beautiful, fruitful life.

1) What is one idea that stuck with you from Sunday’s sermon? What’s one question you have?

2) Read Galatians 5:22-24. Why is Paul’s choice of fruit as the metaphor for life in the Spirit so important?

3) Walking with the Spirit requires us to ask for help. Why is it so hard to ask for help?

4) The Spirit grows fruit in our lives over time. Have you seen the fruit grow in your life? How did that happen?

5) Where are you hoping to see God produce fruit in your life?

Galatians 5:16-25

Title: Gospel Fruit
Scripture: Galatians 5:16-25
Speaker: Paul Brandes, PaulB@ChristCommunityKC.org

>> The gospel changes you to live rightly.
The gospel is the good news of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection, which, if you trust Him above all others, saves you from sin and gives you new life now.
>> Know you are in a battle.
“There are two natures at work in every Christian: the Spirit and the sinful nature. And at any point in our life, we will ‘live by’ one, and ‘not gratify’ the other.” -Tim Keller
>> Know that you are not fighting alone.
>> Cultivate the fruit.
- Fruit is the result of miraculous hard work.
- Fruit is slow and inevitable.
- Fruit is a sign of life, but it doesn’t make the tree alive.
>> Rejoice! You belong to Jesus.
I’m in Christ, now rejoicing—
From old Adam I am free!
All old things are becoming
Both new and heavenly!
I’m tasting and enjoying
Life and peace and liberty!
Praise God! I’m in Christ eternally!
- Charles Austin Miles
