Introduction
Last week, we started a message on the miracle of Lazarus’ sickness, death and resurrection. We learned last time that no matter what happens in life, Jesus loves us, and He cares for us. Jesus has been weeping with this family and now He stands at the tomb. Let’s consider the following tonight…
Last week, we started a message on the miracle of Lazarus’ sickness, death and resurrection. We learned last time that no matter what happens in life, Jesus loves us, and He cares for us. Jesus has been weeping with this family and now He stands at the tomb. Let’s consider the following tonight…
The protest of Martha
Jesus asked for the stone at the entrance of the tomb to be removed.
Lazarus’ sister, Martha, stood in protest. She declared her brother’s body was probably decaying and stinking. Without realizing what she was doing, she was trying to limit Jesus. She had soon forgotten what Jesus had previously told her about the resurrection and life. I realize for all of us
there may be some element of unbelief at times, but God help our unbelief. God, help us to believe You and not limit what You can do in our lives or circumstances.

The prayer of Jesus
Jesus prayed before He raised Lazarus from the grave. I think we would
do well to study the prayers of Jesus. First, notice that Jesus looked to God for help. Second, Jesus prayed in the will of the Father. He and the Father are one and they were in agreement in this prayer. Jesus wasn’t trying to convince God to do something that was not His will. Prayer is not trying to get God to come around to our way of thinking; prayer is God working in our hearts until we come around to His way of thinking.

The power of the Word
Jesus called for Lazarus, loudly, so everyone could hear Him. Lazarus came forth wrapped in grave clothes. Jesus had them to lose him, so all could see that it was Lazarus. They all witnessed the power of God’s Word. God’s Word is powerful today! It’s what we used to resist the devil. It is what we speak over our lives. The Word of God is what we put in our hearts to not sin against Him. It’s God’s Word that convicts us when we get saved, according to Paul. Thank God for His life giving and powerful Word!
