1 Corinthians 1:22-25
For indeed Jews ask for signs and Greeks search for wisdom; but we preach Christ crucified, to Jews a stumbling block and to Gentiles foolishness, but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
If you look for human knowledge, you will miss God.
…the Greeks search for wisdom… v. 22
If you look for earthly power, you will miss God.
For indeed, Jews ask for signs… v. 22
The word “signs” refers to events that were ‘fingermarks of God,’ or miracles that attested to the fact that God was working.
John 8:28
And He who sent Me is with Me; He has not left Me alone, for I always do the things that are pleasing to Him.
“Which one of you convicts Me of sin?”
Since He did not establish a visible Jewish empire, He could not be the One they were expecting. —Spiros Zodhiates
Matthew 12:39-40
An evil and adulterous generation craves for a sign; and yet no sign will be given to it but the sign of Jonah the prophet; for just as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the sea monster, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

Elevating a temporary desire above an eternal relationship with God will always cause us to miss the mark.
Is it possible that we can be so hungry for signs that we miss the One to whom the signs point? Can we be so enamored by an earthly life that is comfortable and prosperous that we miss God’s purpose?
If you look for Christ on the cross, you CANNOT miss God.
…but we preach Christ crucified, to Jews a stumbling block and to Gentiles foolishness, but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. v. 23-24
Splendid sinners, lovable losers, miserable misfits and fantastic failures. —JC Ryle
1 Corinthians 1:24
…but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.
1 Corinthians 1:9
God is faithful, through whom you were called into fellowship with His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
Have you heard and responded to the personal call to Christ?
1 Corinthians 1:25
Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
What’s wiser than reconciling the whole world of sinners to God through Christ? What’s stronger than a man rising from the dead and overcoming death, satan and sin?
