Battlefield of the Mind
By: Joyce Meyer

Chapter 1

Negative thoughts try to define our current situations, but should NEVER determine our future. Temporal situations should never forecast our future.

Ephesians 6:12 (AMP Version)
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood [contending only with physical opponents], but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this [present] darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly (supernatural) places.

John 8:4 talks about how the enemy (Satan) is a liar and the father of all lies. Nothing that comes from him is truth because he is incapable of telling the truth.

The enemy has a strategic plan of war. His battle plan is to infiltrate our mind. He knows that if he can place fear, doubt, anxiety, a dis trust, than he can win the battle.

Our thoughts produce words, and they both produce action.

2 Cor 10:4-5
The weapons of our warfare are not physical [weapons of flesh and blood]. Our weapons are divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses.5We are destroying sophisticated arguments and every exalted and proud thing that sets itself up against the [true] knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought and purpose captive to the obedience of Christ

What are strongholds?
It's an area in which we are held in bondage (prison) due to a certain way of thinking.

The enemy is crafty. He has to study us because he doesn't really know us. Christ knows us because He created us.

How do we overcome strongholds?
Prayer, Praise, and Worship

We can pray the word, speak the word, and sing the word. We need spiritual weaponry to fight off spirits of the enemy. Even Jesus used the word against satan in the wilderness. "It is written"

Prayer and worship take you in, and praise will bring you out. Praise and worship are really a battle position. They actually confuse the enemy. Prayer and praise both involve the Word of God, and require relationship.

Psalm 9:10 AMP
And those who know Your name [who have experienced Your precious mercy] will put their confident trust in You, For You, O Lord, have not abandoned those who seek You.

Prayer is good, but not if it's merely a way of avoiding responsibility. With responsibility comes authority.

Luke 4:18
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me (the Messiah), Because He has anointed Me to preach the good news to the poor. He has sent Me to announce release (pardon, forgiveness) to the captives, And recovery of sight to the blind, To set free those who are oppressed (downtrodden, bruised, crushed by tragedy),

God promises us in the passage above: healing, anointing, liberty, sight, freedom

Our battlefields have specific names! When war is waged it always has a name. Some of our battles have names like sickness, doubt, fear, anxiety, marital problems, issues on your job, family problems, etc...

GOOD NEWS: if you can define it (name it) you can defeat it!

1 Cor 10:13 NIV
No temptation ( has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.

God makes a way of escape for us, it's up to us whether we deploy and carry out his escape plan that He provided for us.

The truth is ALWAYS revealed through the Word!

Our problems are internal because of our thoughts and attitudes. Our outward behavior is often a result of our inner lives. Satan knows that if he can control our thoughts he can control our lives.

Use your weapons against him, regain ground in the battlefield of your mind. That's God's territory, it does NOT belong to the enemy.

CHAPTER 2

Proverbs 23:7
For as he thinks in his heart, so is he [in behavior--one who manipulates].
If our thoughts are going to affect what we become, then it should a priority that we think right thoughts.

You can NOT have a positive life and a negative mind.

As humans we will become lazy about something if we don't realize how important it is to pay attention to it. God like thinking is a VITAL necessity to the Christian life.

Sometimes our lives are in a state of chaos because of wrong thinking. How do we fix it?

Pay attention to the signs and symptoms!

When we are sick the first thing that a nurse or doctor will check is our VITAL signs. The temperature of our body, blood pressure, oxygen levels, x rays, and sometimes blood work.

Vital means something that we can not live without, such as a heartbeat. The beat of your heart shows signs and proof of life.

Right thinking is equally as vital to the believer, it's a part of our spiritual vitality and freedom. Your life will not get straightened out until your mind does.

Use your weapons (prayer, praise, Word) to tear down strongholds that Satan has built in your mind, and get SERIOUS about it. Begin thinking about what you are actually thinking about. You will begin to chose your thoughts more carefully.

Zechariah 4:6
‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the Lord Almighty.

ASK GOD FOR HELP AND ASK OFTEN!

My spiritual life is dependent upon spending regular, quality time with God. You have to give it priority in your life.

Matthew 12:33-34 NIV
“Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit. You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.

A tree is known by it's fruit. The same is true in our lives. Thoughts bear fruit.

Good thoughts = good
Bad thoughts = bad

You can look at a persons attitude and know what kind of thinking is prevalent in their life. Where the mind goes, the man follows. It's not just your mind that thinks, your heart thinks also. As you think in your heart so are you...

CHAPTER 3

Galatians 6:9 NIV
Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

You can regain ground on the battlefield, even if it's inch by inch. Always leaning on God's grace and not your own ability.

We can't have a quitter mentality. God's looking for people who will go THROUGH with Him. (Psalm 23)

Isaiah 43:2
“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they will not overwhelm you. When you walk through fire, you will not be scorched, Nor will the flame burn you."

The word here doesn't say that we will not participate in overwhelming things, or problems. It promises that we will have problems, but we won't drown in them. We will go THROUGH them.

Read Habakkuk 3:19

God is there to strengthen us, and encourage us to keep going on when times get tough.

It's easy to quit, it takes faith to go through!

Deuteronomy 30:19
"I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you today, that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse; therefore, you shall choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants"

There are thousands upon thousands of thoughts presented to us every day. The mind has to be renewed to follow after the Spirit and not the flesh.

Our carnal, earthly, fleshly minds don't need to exert any effort when it comes to thinking wrong thoughts. On the other hand, we have to be intentional when it comes to choosing the right thoughts. We have to decide to renew our minds and be like minded with Christ.

Proverbs 18:21
Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it and indulge it will eat its fruit and bear the consequences of their words.
Your thought life produces life or death. If you indulge your appetite on negative thoughts and words, you will EAT them.

Begin to reprogram your thought life. Impossible? No. Difficult? Absolutely yes!

Invite the Holy Spirit to take control of your thought life. He will lead you and guide you. Just DON'T GIVE UP! It's better to gain ground slowly, then to die where you are standing. Keep moving forward.

Read Deuteronomy 1:2, 6-8

How long have you been standing at the same mountain?
God is trying to get us to wake up and quit looking at the problem, and fix our eyes on the answer. HE is the answer, and He has given you the keys to defeat that mountain.

Have you believed the lies the enemy has told you? If so, what?
When we realize that we have been living in a deceptive way of thinking, we can reroute our journey by speaking the word of God.

The Israelites had a "wilderness mentality". Their wrong thinking kept them in bondage. Make up your mind that you will NOT quit or give up until the victory is complete.

CHAPTER 4

Don't be discouraged if progress seems slow. It happens little by little.

Deuteronomy 7:22
"The Lord your God will drive out those nations before you, little by little. You will not be allowed to eliminate them all at once, or the wild animals will multiply around you"

Pride is the "beast" that will consume us if we receive too much freedom too quickly. God wants us to remember that it's a gift from Him and not something we can make happen in our own strength.

1 Peter 5:5-10
"God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble. Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings. And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. To him be the power for ever and ever. Amen."

Only Christ can do what we can not do ourselves. We do what we can, and Jesus does what we can't.

When a baby is learning to walk, they don't give up when they fall. They might cry, and get bumps and bruises, but they keep getting back up. RISE UP AND KEEP WALKING!

Read Romans 8:1

WHEN CONDEMNATION COMES USE YOUR WORD WEAPON.

Remind the enemy of Romans 8:1. We don't walk after flesh and blood, but after the Spirit of the LIVING God!

WALKING AFTER THE FLESH IS SELF DEPENDENCY. WALKING AFTER THE SPIRIT IS DEPENDING ON GOD.

Change your thoughts, and change your confessions. When we fail it doesn't mean we are a failure. It means we need to dust ourselves off and keep going.

Discouragement destroys hope, so naturally the devil wants to discourage us. Without hope we give up, and that's exactly what the enemy wants.

Read Psalm 42:5 James 1:4 Philippians 1:6
Philippians 2:13

REMEMBER, BE PATIENT WITH YOURSELF!
