Philippians - Side by Side for the Gospel
Pastor Ben Miller . 9/13/2020 . Philippians 1:1-2

Big Idea: Partner together in the pursuit of knowing and proclaiming Jesus.

Three Ways to Partner This Fall (v. 1)

1. Serve Jesus in regular ministry ["servants"]

2. Hold fast to the gospel through consistent Gospel Community ["saints"]

3. Support the consistent multiplication of leadership ["overseers and deacons"]

Two Things you will Need to Partner this Fall:

1. The Grace of God
2. The Peace of God

Take some time to make each goal personal...

•I want to grow in serving Jesus in ministry by... (suggestions: Mindset, Frequency)
•I want to grow in holding fast the gospel through Gospel community by... (suggestions: Joining one, Gathering more, contacting people outside of the scheduled meeting, vulnerability)
•I want to grow in supporting the multiplication of leaders by... (suggestions: Stepping up into leadership, becoming an apprentice, being available when asked to serve)

Offering and Family Needs

Giving and helping are both essential during this time. We encourage you to decide in your heart how much you should give during this time, and then offer it cheerfully to the Lord as an act of worship. If you have a need, please let us know by connecting with your GC leader or emailing communications@oakhillfellowship.com with your need.
One note: at this time we do not have a specific "benevolence fund" to which you can give. That said, we have allocated extra funds from the general fund to help people connected to Oak Hill during this time.
In all of this we want to be an Acts 4 kind of church: Now the full number of those who believed were of one heart and soul, and no one said that any of the things that belonged to him was his own, but they had everything in common. And with great power the apostles were giving their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all. There was not a needy person among them, for as many as were owners of lands or houses sold them and brought the proceeds of what was sold and laid it at the apostles' feet, and it was distributed to each as any had need. (Acts 4:32–35 ESV)

Gospel Community (Small Groups)
Questions & Personal Applications

Apply 1: Read Phil. 1:1, 2:5-7, 2:17, 2:19-21. 1) Based on these verses, how would you describe the mindset of a servant? 2) How does this affect the way you serve in the church (in quality and quantity of service)? 3) What’s one way you want to grow in ministry service this Fall?

Apply 2: Phil. 1:1 calls the people of the church “saints” or “set-apart ones.” Read Phil. 2:14-17 and Heb. 3:12-13. 1) What are some ways God sets apart the church community and uses it to help us “hold fast to the word of life” (the gospel)? 2) How are we doing as a Gospel Community in consistently helping one another do this?

Apply 3: Phil. 1:1 specifically address two groups of leaders in the church: the overseers (elders) and deacons. Read Phil. 2:29. How can we honor and support the elders and deacons of our church?

Apply 4: Read Phil. 2:2. What are some ways we regularly receive the grace and peace of God as we pursue growth in these three areas this Fall?
