WHY CONTEND - APOSTATE TEACHERS (Jude 3-16).

A. Their subtle perversions:Two basic denials (Jude:3-4).
a. Slipped in / crept in / came in the side door/ slip into water without making a ripple

1) Freedom into License to sin / Greek word= Licentiousness/ refers to uninhibited sexual indulgence without shame + w/o concern for what others think or how they may be affected
2) Deny: They profess to know God, but by their deeds they deny Him, being detestable and disobedient and worthless for any good deed.


B. Their certain doom: Three historic examples (Jude 5-7).
1) Hebrews who rebelled / didn’t make the Promised Land
2) Angels who rebelled/ gave up positions of authority and turned to sex with woman
3) Sodom + Gomorrah: sexuality

Interlude: Even archangel Michael did not confront Devil for Moses body but called on the Lord’s Name! Not use own authority.

C. Their impious ways: Three historic examples (Jude 8-11).
1) Way of Cain: hatred and murder
2) Profit like Balaam: Prophet for hire---money/sex/power (Consuming greed, self-pleasure) Gen
3) Korah’s rebellion: rebel against rightful leadership Levite not High Priest (Aaron’s line) 15k died (Num. 16)


D. Their utter falsity: six awful metaphors (Jude 12-13).
1) These people are blemishes at your love feasts, eating with you without the slightest qualm (like reefs or rocks in the sea (submerged and invisible beneath the surface of the water), but deadly dangerous for ships)
2) Shepherds feed only self
3) Clouds w/o rain
4) Autumn trees w/o fruit and uprooted – twice dead
5) Wild waves of the sea---foaming up their shame
6) Wandering stars for who blackest darkness is reserved
