Can you be completely honest with God? (A fact we might believe)
Are you completely honest with God? (A reality we can experience)
Are you completely honest with God? (A reality we can experience)
False narrative: God doesn’t want me to go so far as to openly admit to Him what I really think and feel. That would just make things worse.
True narrative: God deeply desires you to openly admit to Him what you really think and feel. That’s the part of you He is responding to and working on.
Whether you are aware of it or not, you are already known in the most intimate of ways possible by God. – “O Lord you have searched me and known me.”
David says the depth and breadth of God’s knowing is all encompassing. He even knows our physical movements – “when I sit…when I rise.”
David presses further still saying God knows and understands our thoughts, and again, without us making them known. – “You understand my thoughts from afar.”
“You scrutinize my path and my lying down…”
He sees and dissects every path in life we take as well as when we do something as simple as lying down.
He sees and dissects every path in life we take as well as when we do something as simple as lying down.
“…and are intimately acquainted with all my ways.”
God’s knowing (intimately acquainted) also means He is actively involved for our greatest good all along the way.
God’s knowing (intimately acquainted) also means He is actively involved for our greatest good all along the way.
Even before we physically form a word with our mouth He knows it fully. David writes, “Even before there is a word on my tongue, Behold, O Lord, You know it all.”
You and I are already intimately, perfectly, completely known by God.
If prayer is going to be a powerful part of helping us learn to do life with God, it is incredibly important for us to practice presenting ourselves to God with unrelenting, unfiltered honesty.
