Plug In with Serve Opportunities!

One of the best ways to grow spiritually is through serving. We'd love to get you plugged into a service opportunity that fits who you are, whether that's greeting, teaching a Sunday School class, cuddling the babies in the nursery, organizing other volunteers, singing, helping with security/safety, or baking up delicious goodies. Check out the bulletin board for opportunities to serve and be the church! For more information contact Pastor Matt (matts@heartlandgb.com or 913-216-3631) or Lori (lorij@heartlandgb.com).
Sermon Notes & Scripture
"The Bible Doesn't Say That: Don't Judge"
Pastor Matt Schaffner
Big Question: Is Jesus really telling us to NOT judge?
Judge (v): form an opinion or conclusion about; decide (a case) in court; give a verdict on (someone) in court.
When reading the Bible, you have to start & end with the CONTEXT. Context starts with the passage as a whole- not just a few verses.

In context, Jesus is saying our choice to judge others results in others judging us.
Far from saying, "Don't judge," Jesus is really telling us three things:
1) you WILL be judged
2) you ARE being judged
3) you HAVE to judge yourself
Self examination- yanking the plank- has to happen before we attempt a sawdust extraction on someone else because it all starts with the knowledge that we WILL be judged by God.
The Pharisees judged and criticized others to make themselves look good, but Jesus is saying we should judge ourselves so we can help others look good.
Jesus' guideline for judging others is threefold:
1) examine yourself & yank the plank first
2) judgment must be beneficial to them
3) they have to be open to hearing
Have you checked yourself? What plank do you need to yank so that you can help & serve others?
Monday is coming!
What happens Sunday is only as meaningful as what you do with it the rest of the week. To know what the Bible DOES'NT say you need to get to know WHAT it really says. Get to know your Bible with us this week as we read through a 7 day introduction to the Bible. The best thing? There is a 100% guarantee that this WILL change your life.
