Sunday 10:45 AM

Knowing Jesus personally in a progressively deeper more intimate way has value that surpasses the value of any other thing you can pursue, achieve or possess in this life.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God.
And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:1-2, 14
Vs 1: In the beginning was the Word…
The word for Word is Logos. Here, one of the primary things Logos communicates is the idea of divine expression which, here, is Jesus.
When John says In the beginning was…he means the Word existed prior to the beginning of time.
The Word is eternal
Vs 1: …and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
The words With God put the Word before us as a living being who is relational.
The Logos existed before one word of Scripture was ever written because The Word was (and is) God.
Vs 2: He was in the beginning with God.
John masterfully affirms the deity of the Word while, at the same time, affirming the individuality of the Word saying He was with God.
Vs 14: And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us
The Word becomes human and very literally, lived among us
Vs 14: …we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.
We recognized – we came to know- the awe inspiring nature of God because Jesus, even as a human being, expressed the glory of God to us.
He is the revelation of who God is, what God is like and how God relates to humanity. In a Word, Jesus.
We would benefit in untold ways if we lingered long on these statements by John, soaking in the reality of who Jesus is.
As we let our physical eyes take in the words of Jesus and the life He lived, we are putting ourselves directly before the Good and Beautiful God who knows us and loves us.
Reflecting on and taking in Jesus, The Word, leads to one clear conclusion:We would be fools not to throw aside our old lives in exchange for life with Jesus.
…I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them but rubbish so that I may gain Christ... Philippians 3:8
There are two questions to ask as we leave today:
1. What could you do, starting now, to begin to know Jesus or come to know Him more fully, lingering in the glory of who He is more completely, more consistently? Paul said this is of surpassing value.

2. Why would you not do this? What could possibly be of more value than knowing Jesus if knowing Jesus is to know God and His glory?
