The most important thing is to listen to Christ.
The most important thing is to listen to Christ.
Martha welcomes, Mary listens. (Luke 10:38-39)
Consider: Martha welcomed Jesus into her home. What an awesome house guest! When have you invited an especially interesting guest into your home?
Going Deeper: Jesus sometimes invited himself into a person’s home. Read: Luke 19: 1-1

Martha is distracted by the details. (Luke 10:40)
Consider: Martha very likely had grand expectations of this wonderful guest coming into her home; but when the event itself arrived, she became overwhelmed and exasperated by all the details surrounding it. Describe a time when you, or someone in your family, had this kind of Martha experience.
Going Deeper: Sometimes you just need to chill and put everything in focus. Read: Psalm 46.

Mary discovers what is truly important. (Luke 10:41-42)
Consider: Jesus told Martha: “There is only one thing worth being concerned about, Mary has discovered it.” What is the “it” Mary discovered?
Going Deeper: Jesus would see Mary and Martha again. In John 11 he raises their brother Lazarus from the dead. His last visit to their home came shortly before his crucifixion. Read: John 12: 1-8.
