RECAP: In this series we’ve been looking at our favorite Bible verses and why they have been impactful. God’s Words are words to live by. They are true, they are helpful, and they work. So often we get overwhelmed by our feelings. We get swamped by our problems. Our emotions can threaten to derail our life. When we focus on God’s Words, His promises, the facts, we can live His ways, keep the train of our faith on the tracks and experience our best life.
QUESTIONS:
1)Where do your emotions tend to get the best of you? When you face a problem in life, how do you respond?
2)Where or how have your feelings gotten best of you over these last five months? What has that taught you?
3)Facts not feelings need to be the engine of our “Faith Train”. When you think about your current state of emotions, what facts can you lean into about who God is? What do you know, or have experienced to be true about Him that can serve as a good reminder in the middle of your struggle?
4)Read Psalm 143:1-10. How can you relate to David? He was going through a hard time. But He reminds himself about God, about His promises, and the Facts. List out everything you see in this verse that tells us something about who God is, or ways that David reminded Himself of God’s promises and goodness.
5)It comes back to trust, but our trust can grow each time we see God’s faithfulness, provision, goodness to us. Reminding ourselves of God’s truth can give us courage to take a step of faith & then when we see He was trustworthy or faithful, it can give us the needed courage for the next time. Where have you seen that to be true in your own life experience?
6)Katie talked about memorizing God’s Words as a way to imbed them in her heart and have them on recall when she faced challenges, uncertainty, anxiety. Most people HATE memorizing anything, but . . . what do you see as the potential benefits? (see Psalm 119:11 for one example)
7)Whatever problem you are facing, focus on God’s promises not the problem. Let the facts not your feelings drive your faith.

THIS WEEK’S CHALLENGE: Write down and begin memorizing one or two Bible verses that speak to a problem, a struggle, an issue you face. Write it on a card, put it on your mirror, save it on your phone (whatever works for you) and imbed it in your heart. It will help you take a step toward experiencing your best life in Jesus.
Prayer: God, so easily I let my emotions, my feelings get the best of me. I focus on my problems and get filled with anxiety and worry. My faith begins to derail. But, I want my feet set on solid ground. I want to lean into Your promises, to be guided by the facts of who you are. Help me to be take steps of trust & with each new experience with your faithfulness may it give me more courage and trust. Help me to imbed your Word in my heart. To focus on your promises not my problems. On the facts not my feelings. You are God, my helper, my rock, my fortress, may I not be shaken. In Jesus’ name, amen.
