How important is Jesus teaching to you?
What, in your life, would you look at in order to accurately and honestly answer that question?
Where does obeying Jesus start?
Truly, truly I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life….
John 5:24
John 5:24
…he who hears My word…
Hear: The act of taking something in and understanding it; attend to and comprehend the message that is being communicated.
Hear: The act of taking something in and understanding it; attend to and comprehend the message that is being communicated.
…and believes Him who sent Me…
Believes: to think or be convinced something is true; to place confidence in; to have faith in or to entrust.

Reading enough to be familiar with Jesus Words is not the same as taking them in such way as to grasp the message He was communicating.
Believe means you have come to place your confidence or trust in something to the degree you will take action on what is believed.
Believing the message of Jesus leads a person into an eternal kind of life as compared to a temporary kind of life.
Hearing is the essential first step of obeying Jesus.
It was then and is now quite common for us to read or hear the words but not actually take in and comprehend the message.
Jesus replied, you are in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God. Matthew 22:29
Jesus said it was because they did not know the Scriptures or the power of God they were in error or mistaken.
We can come to some very misguided and detrimental conclusions about God, about the world we live in, about life and about ourselves when we do not know or understand the Scriptures
If we are to ever confidently rely and obey Jesus Word to us, we have to know and understand what His Message is.
Obeying Jesus is how we live The Eternal kind of life as opposed to the temporal or merely physical kind of life. Obeying Jesus requires hearing (comprehending) Jesus.
Growing & Going (G2) Step:
Pick one of the following accounts of Jesus to read daily for the next 7 days.
Pick one that you are least familiar with.
Read it at least one time a day, thinking about the message that is being communicated in the account. Read it slowly and reflectively. Don’t let yourself get bogged down trying to remember details and facts about the story. Linger over it. Write down thoughts, questions and things that impress you. See if you can get a clear understanding of one central truth the account communicates to you.
Write that down in one or two sentences. Next, identify one way you can take action / obey Jesus based on what you understand from the message you understood.
*Don’t hesitate to ask others or seek their input as you seek to hear Jesus.
