The Real Jesus | The Cost of Fear
People have always had strong opinions about Jesus. From “heretic” to “prophet” to “Son of God”, beliefs have always covered the spectrum. Join us as we explore the beginning of the great debate, as recorded in the Gospel of John…and see why billions through the centuries have decided he is the only Savior worth their lives.

Welcome to Mission Hills!
Mission Hills is a church family—a family who wants to extend to you the same love, hope, and joy that we have received. We know that we cannot be all things to all people. But we do want to be one thing to all people. We want to be the place where anyone, of any age, of any level of spiritual maturity, of any economic class, of any ethnicity, of any church background—or no church background—can meet God in a way that transforms their life…forever!
If you are a first time guest, we would love to meet you! Stop by the Welcome Center for a free drink at Peakview!

Easter 2018 | Baggage Check
No one gets through life without picking up some baggage along the way — from heartaches to hurts to guilt for what we’ve done or failed to do. It gets pretty heavy. In fact, the baggage we accumulate can be downright unbearable. This Easter, we’ll explore the only way to check that baggage — to hand it off to someone who can take care of it in a way we cannot. We can learn how to start living a life free from the burden of all our baggage. God offers this hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
https://www.missionhills.org/event/easter-baggage-check/Today we’re going to talk about one of the greatest obstacles to experiencing the abundant, excessive life that Jesus promised. That’s what Jesus said he came to bring us. He said “I came that they might have life and have it abundantly” or, as we saw a few weeks ago, “to have a life of excessive good.”
God commands His people to “fear not” 87 times in the Bible.
Now to put that in perspective:
- The command not to make or bow down to idols only shows up 14 times in the Bible.
- The command not to commit adultery only shows up 9 times in the Bible.
- The command not to murder only shows up 8 times.

Four groups that said “here’s how we need to respond:”
1 // The Zealots said “we need to fight”.
2 // The Essenes said “we need to start over”.
3 // The Sadducees said “we need to cooperate”.
4 // The Pharisees said “we need to get back to the Bible.”

John shows us five things that fear does to us:
1 // Fear causes us to ignore the undeniable.
We cling to the undeniable. We have to choose to focus on the undeniable examples of God’s power and provision.
2 // Fear causes us to compromise our principles.
The Pharisees have compromised their principles because of their fear. But that’s what fear does: fear causes us to compromise our principles.
3 // Fear causes us to overvalue what we have and undervalue what God could do.
God had promised that as long as they obeyed him they would be free of foreign oppression, so we have to think that if the nation as a whole had trusted in Jesus, that would have been the end of Roman occupation.
4 // Fear causes us to accomplish the very thing we’re trying to avoid.
They were afraid that the people’s acceptance in Jesus would result in the loss of their nation and the temple…and it was their fear which actually accomplished that very thing.
5 // Fear causes us to miss out on God’s greatest blessings.
Fear never moves us into the future, it only chains us to the past.

We can’t stop God, but we can frustrate His purposes in our lives by allowing fear to keep us from following.
Feed your faith and starve your fear.
Conclusion:
How do we do that? I think there’s a three-step process to feeding our faith and starving our fear:
1 // What has God done?
2 // What is the true value of what we have vs. what God is leading us to?
3 // What promises do I need to remember to move forward?
