“How Deep the Father’s Love for us” is one of my favorite songs to sing. The last part particularly strikes a chord with me:
“Why should I gain from His reward?
I cannot give an answer
But this I know with all my heart
His wounds have paid my ransom”
This is a question I OFTEN ask myself, WHY?!?!
It doesn’t make sense that I should gain anything from Christ’s death and resurrection
This occurrence is SO RARE in our culture today, you never see it.
The human answer to this question of WHY?!?! Is simple… WE SHOULDN’T

This concept is so obscure in our minds that people literally write songs about it.
I know that I am not the only one who questions this fact.
Many in here, like me struggle with this basic aspect of our faith:
That JESUS (God in flesh, perfect, and innocent) was slain on our behalf
I am comforted in the fact that our questions are not too big for God.
Indeed, there are MANY things that we will not know until we see Jesus again, and still many things after that may go unanswered, (Deut.29:29) but:

*God’s word is sufficient to answer our questions
*So what does God’s word say?
*How does the Bible answer this “WHY”

1) The Bible teaches that God Created with YOUR reward in mind!
First, we must understand that the Bible teaches that God is Omniscient (All Knowing)

God DOES NOT LEARN… EVER! He never has, He never will!
This brings us to creation, God created Everything, and the Bible teaches that it was good!
But then something happened… The Fall
*God DOES NOT learn; therefore, God did not LEARN that Adam and Eve would willingly rebel and disregard His instructions causing terrible consequences for the whole of creation.
From the foundations of the earth, Jesus was Plan A for the redemption of the World.
We have to understand that God created a situation in which Adam and Eve had a choice. But God WAS NOT surprised by the choice that they made!
God Created with our reward, through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus in mind. PLAN A for redemption from the foundations of the world was JESUS!

This truth gets to me! In full transparency, this is hard to grasp! And I often ask the question: “Why didn’t God just create Adam and Eve with no chance of disobeying him, thus saving himself from the hurt, the world from the destruction, and Jesus from the cross.
2) It is 100% Necessary for me/you to gain from Jesus’ Reward

The Bible is ADAMANT that this reward (Salvation is found ONLY in the work of Jesus)
*Last 4 words of this passage: “We MUST be saved” (not “may be saved” or “we can be”)
*Why did Jesus die? Because mankind MUST BE SAVED!!! Because:
1) We are not saved already
*By Nature, we are Lost (through Adam and Eve) just like the sheep, the silver, and the son in John 15. We are not only lost, but we are perishing! (John 3:16)
2) We Cannot Save Ourselves
*Colossians 2:13- We are dead, we cannot blot out our past sins, or save ourselves from the onslaught of sin and Satan! What can a dead person do to guarantee salvation for eternity?! If we are to be saved, salvation must come from someone/something outside of ourselves
3) Because God has provided salvation for us
*Why would God do it if we did not need it?! Why the birth, life, and death of a perfect savior if we could be saved some other way? The fact that God has, at such a great cost, promised salvation to us all is SURE PROOF that all must be saved
*Salvation is Necessary HERE AND NOW
1) Notice “under Heaven” instead of “in heaven”
*Salvation is given on this side of heaven, so we must receive this reward in this life!
3) You Matter To God (Father)
It’s time we begin to view God as a Loving Father rather than a tyrannical ruler in the sky!
Listen to this quote from John Calvin.
“The whole may be thus summed up: “Christ given to us by the kindness of God is apprehended and possessed by faith, by means of which we obtain in particular a twofold benefit; first, being reconciled by the righteousness of Christ, God becomes, instead of a judge, an indulgent Father; and, secondly, being sanctified by his Spirit, we aspire to integrity and purity of life.”
As we see in the passages above from Isaiah and Revelation, the Messiah, Risen Redeemer King, Jesus Christ turns up to rule bringing his reward with him, a reward which is his own flock of people, saved by His blood. These are the people the Father has given to Jesus, as His reward:
How incredible that from Jesus’ perspective we are His reward, the people of God, sinners saved by undeserved grace! We cannot give an answer for why Jesus would die for us, for his enemies – we can only look with thankfulness that:
THIS is JESUS, Our Redeemer, Our Friend, OUR REWARD! How DEEP the love of the Father to send His only son for us.

Dear friend if you are reading this by way of the internet please know that you are loved and cared for. If you have no relationship with God the Father through Jesus Christ His Son, then I invite you to trust Him by faith and receive Him as your personal Savior. Jesus Christ died on the cross for the sin of everyone in the world that they may have eternal life. All of us have sinned and all are guilty before Almighty God who made us to have fellowship with Him. But sin broke that ability to have a relationship and Jesus has restored the possibility to know God personally through His sacrifice. Please know that if you will seek God and turn from your sin and pray He will respond with His love and give to you a personal relationship through your belief in His Son and the sacrifice He made just for you. He will call for a change in your life too. He wants you to follow Him, not the world, not your own desires, but to follow Jesus. That brings a life change when you turn from sin and self and by faith believe in Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord. There is no Savior without Him being Lord of your life. Your willingness to change by following Him daily in your life will be the proof of your faith.
