The Explicit Gospel: Galatians 1:6-10 - "Jesus Plus Nothing"
Today's Sermon Summary: The only news in life that seems "too good to be true" but actually is true, is the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The simplicity found in the good news of the Gospel can easily become distorted in our product-driven world. We think there has to be a catch. There must be more work to be done. There must be something we have to contribute to our salvation. But as Paul reminds us, anything added to the Gospel is not the Gospel at all. Paul's strongest rebuke in all the letters he wrote to the Church can be found in Galatians 1:9; "If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God's curse!" This shows the seriousness of getting the Gospel right. We are saved by Christ alone by grace alone through faith alone. We bring nothing to salvation but we gain everything.

1. He didn’t die for your American dream.
Jesus didn’t die to make you healthy, wealthy, secure, and comfortable. Jesus didn’t die so we could achieve the American dream, But so that we could inherit immeasurable riches in the presence of God for eternity.
2. He didn’t die to be the poster boy for your cause.
It’s easy to take our own traditions, worldviews, and causes, paste Jesus’ name on them and call them “Christian.” Jesus didn’t die so we could create our own little social/political kingdoms in this age, but so that we would rejoice in the coming kingdom of then next.
3. Jesus didn’t die so you wouldn't have to change.
Grace not only saves us, it trains us, it teaches us to take Jesus’ side against our sin. Jesus didn’t die so we could keep on sinning but so that we would have the desire to stop sinning and glorify him in all we do.
4. Jesus didn’t die to merely raise your moral standard.
Our religious pharisaical hearts scream for us to add our “do” to Jesus’ “done.” But He doesn’t need it. Jesus didn’t die so we could amass a spiritual resume of good works but so that we could rest in his righteousness as we obey out of love and humility.
