Acts 4:23-31
Prayer to the Sovereign God!
Main thought: In times of struggle, pain, and persecution God’s people must rely on His sovereign power to persevere in proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ and bring about His desired results.
In our text there are three actions the church should take to persevere in obeying God.
I. First, Christians must remember that the sovereign God is in control.
A. The situation

C. The prayer to the Sovereign God
1. God’s title
Ephesians 1:19-21- That power is like the working of his mighty strength, which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come.
2. God’s creation
1 Peter 4:19- So then, those who suffer according to God's will should commit themselves to their faithful Creator and continue to do good.

II. Second, Christians must continue in the proclamation of God’s saving message.
A. The church’s mission
Acts 1:8- But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.
B. The church’s need for boldness
Ephesians 6:19-20- Pray also for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.
Philippians 1:12-14- Now I want you to know, brothers, that what has happened to me has really served to advance the gospel. As a result, it has become clear throughout the whole palace guard and to everyone else that I am in chains for Christ. Because of my chains, most of the brothers in the Lord have been encouraged to speak the word of God more courageously and fearlessly.

III. Third, Christians must rely on the sovereign God to act.
A. God’s response to the prayer of His people

1 Thessalonians 2:2- We had previously suffered and been insulted in Philippi, as you know, but with the help of our God we dared to tell you his gospel in spite of strong opposition.
