New Sunday School Class
Last week, we began a new class focusing on worship. Last week...

Last week, New Life For Girls shared in song, testimony, and praise dance.
Hope leads to Faith - but there are two kinds of Hope
~ Natural hope = wishful thinking
~ Spiritual Hope = Assurance / Guarantee. Always based on God’s Word.
There are also two kinds of faith:
~ Natural Faith = based on experience
~ Spiritual Faith = Based on God’s Word
The tassels or Tzitzit were braids on the corners of the tallit (prayer shawl)

Each Tzitzit is tied in 613 knots
~ 365 prohibitions (thou shalt not laws)
~ 248 affirmations (thou shall laws)
~ Knots also correspond with the ineffable name of God, Yahweh
~ Hang on the corners - constant reminder to walk according to God’s Law
~ Hebrew word we translate as Law is halacha - literally “walk”
~ Modern comparison would be us wearing a Bible around our neck
Why a Blue Thread?
~ Blue was the most expensive color to produce in Biblical times
~ Reserved for royalty and the wealthy
~ Only source was a small gland of the murex snail. It took 12,000 snails to fill up a thimble full of blue dye.
~ In 200 BC one pound of cloth dyed = $36,000
~ By 300 AD it was $96,000
~ Lydia - seller of purple, would have been one of the wealthiest women in the Roman Empire - why her conversion was such a big deal (Acts 16:14)
Why a blue thread?
~ Blue represented something divine, to have a blue thread was to have something of the divine and royal - a reminder of each wearer’s significance in God’s sight.
Tzitzit also represented authority
He cut off one of the Tzitzit - grave insult to Saul
~ Showed David not only had Saul’s life in his hands, but also showed that David took Saul’s authority symbolically
~ David was upset with himself afterwards though (1 Samuel 24: 8-11)
By the time of Christ, the tzitzit had become a status symbol
~ The wealthier you were, the more grand your tassel would have been.
~ They were also lengthened to the point of dragging on the ground
~ Jesus rebukes this in Matthew 23:5
Back to the woman…
~ She was brave and desperate for even coming out
~ Levitical law forbade a woman in her condition to be out among people
So why the tzitzit?
~ First - represented the Word of God
~ Second - Represented the authority of Jesus
~ Third - see Malachi 4:2
Faith healed her then, her confession within herself manifested it - her faith allowed for action that led to physical manifestation.
Two examples of faith in the Bible
~ Abraham and Thomas
Name changed to Abraham in Chapter 16 “Father of many nations” - Decades before he had his first child
Difference was a matter of choice. The same power God gave us in the beginning.
So what do our words say about us?
~ Believe then speak
Where is our faith? In man, or in God?

Do our words match up with that?

Thank you for joining us!
