Luke 23: 27-31(NASB)
27And following Him was a large crowd of the people, and of women who were mourning and lamenting Him. 28But Jesus turning to them said, “Daughters of Jerusalem, stop weeping for Me, but weep for yourselves and for your children. 29“For behold, the days are coming when they will say, ‘Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bore, and the breasts that never nursed.’ 30“Then they will begin TO SAY TO THE MOUNTAINS, ‘FALL ON US,’ AND TO THE HILLS, ‘COVER US.’ 31“For if they do these things when the tree is green, what will happen when it is dry?”
5 weeks until Easter.
· We will do a Good Friday Service here at 5pm (Save the date)
If you missed any of the first three stations, catch them on our website www.discovercommunity.church, or podcast on iTunes or Google Play.
This Week: Station #4…
Picture the scene:
· Jesus had lust collapsed and Simon had picked up the cross
This is the final teaching of Jesus Christ while He walked among us on Earth.
· Why this time and place, why now?
Let’s break this apart….
Luke 23:27 27And following Him was a large crowd of the people, and of women who were mourning and lamenting Him.
· Disciples
· Sanhedrin
· Romans
· Curious Jews
Luke 23:28 28But Jesus turning to them said, “Daughters of Jerusalem, stop weeping for Me, but weep for yourselves and for your children.”
· “Professional Mourners”
Luke 23:2929
· Jesus is warning them
· “Don’t worry about me because you’ve got plenty to cry for yourselves.”
Luke 23:30 30“Then they will begin TO SAY TO THE MOUNTAINS, ‘FALL ON US,’ AND TO THE HILLS, ‘COVER US”
· Quoting the warning to Israel in Hosea 10:8
· Those with ears to hear would have picked up on it.
Luke 23:31 31“For if they do these things when the tree is green, what will happen when it is dry?”
· A common Jewish proverb
· "If they will do this to me, the Innocent and the Holy, what will your fate be?
Why did Jesus take this moment to preach His last?
· These mourners were not sincere. They looked the part, and showed the right amount of grief, but it was all for show!
Our Father is more concerned with your heart, than your apparent righteousness
· He’s more concerned with your hearts passion, than your outward zeal.
· Are you willing to be truly passionate for Jesus?
