POWER OF PRAISE & INTIMACY OF WORSHIP

POWER OF PRAISE & INTIMACY OF WORSHIP

This morning I will be sharing my heart for one of my favorite passions in life, Praise and Worship! We will be learning about the importance of both praise and worship, their similarities and differences, and the power of incorporating them in your daily spiritual walk with God. There are many ways to praise God, and all of them lead us to His heart, which is what we ultimately desire when we worship Him! I really believe the Holy Spirit is going to continue to pour out more and more of His presence at Family First in 2018 as we seek Him like never before! We want to worship, not just through song, but also by bringing Him our reckless worship and praise in response to His reckless and unconditional love for us. -Pastor Meredith Hobbs

•Power of Praise & Intimacy of Worship
•“Praise is the golden door into a heavenly environment.”
- Dr. Mike Murdock

•God made man with a desire to worship!
•You were born to worship! (Natural birth and second birth)

•Hebrew Words of Praise:
Tahila – to call to Him in praise and salvation
•On going song of praise
•Unending song of the Holy Spirit

•Psalm 40:3, “He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the LORD.”

•Psalm 33:1, “Shout for joy in the LORD, O you righteous! Praises befits the upright.”

Hallel – praise, boast, celebrate, commend
•Involved with light
•Hallel to Yah = Hallelujah

•Psalm 102:18, “Let this be recorded for a generation to come, so that a people not yet to be created may praise the Lord;”

•Yadah – praise, thanksgiving, public declaration of praise to God
•Involves use of hands
•Emphasizes attributes of God’s greatness

•Psalm 108:1-3, “My heart is steadfast, O God! I will sing and make melody with all my being! Awake, O harp and lyre! I will awake the dawn! I will give thanks to you, O LORD, among the peoples; I will sing praises to you among the nations.”

•Todah – thanksgiving, sacrifice of praise
•Psalm 100:4, “Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name!”

•Hebrews 13:15-16, “Through him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name. Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.”

•Praising God is declaring truth statements about Him.You could praise Him without knowing Him!

•There is power in the sound of your praise!

•Acts 16:25, “About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them, and suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken. And immediately all the doors were opened, and everyone’s bonds were unfastened.”

•When you praise God, freedom is released!
•Not just for you, but also for others!

•Isaiah 61:3 (NKJV), “To console those who mourn in Zion, to give them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise (Tahila) for the spirit of heaviness; that they may be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.”

•Joshua 6:5, “And when they make a long blast with the ram’s horn, when you hear the sound of the trumpet, then all the people shall (Ruwa) shout with a great shout, and the wall of the city will fall down flat, and the people shall go up, everyone straight before him.”

•Ruwa: to shout; to split the ears with sound; to blow an alarm (associated with trumpets)

•Joshua 6:16, “And at the seventh time, when the priests had blown the trumpets, Joshua said to the people, ‘Shout, for the Lord has given you the city.’

•Verse 20, “So the people shouted, and the trumpets were blown. As soon as the people heard the sound of the trumpet, the people shouted a great shout, and the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they captured the city.”

•Your praise is a weapon!

•Psalm 149:5-9, “Let the godly exult in glory; let them sing for joy on their beds. Let the high praises of God be in their throats and two-edged swords in their hands, to execute vengeance on the nations and punishments on the peoples, to bind their kings with chains and their nobles with fetters of iron, to execute on them the judgment written! This is honor for all his godly ones. Praise the Lord!”

•Intimacy of Worship
•Praise was “about God”, Worship is “to know God”
•To worship God you have to get into His heart

•You already know Him, and you want to know Him more.
•Because there’s always more to be had!

We worship God for who He is and for what He's done for us. How could we not respond in worship?!

•God’s love for us is reckless!
•Our worship and love for Him should be the same!

•We didn’t earn it or deserve it!

•Romans 5:6-8, For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die—but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

•Let Him be your Abba Father!

•He proved His love for us!

•1 John 4:9-10, “In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.”

•He pursues the ones He loves!

•Hosea 3:1–3, And the Lord said to me, “Go again, love a woman who is loved by another man and is an adulteress, even as the Lord loves the children of Israel, though they turn to other gods and love cakes of raisins.” So I bought her for fifteen shekels of silver and a homer and a lethech of barley. And I said to her, “You must dwell as mine for many days. You shall not play the whore, or belong to another man; so will I also be to you.”

•Intimacy of Worship
•Jesus Anointed at Bethany:
•Mark 14:3-9

•Verses 4-5, There were some who said to themselves indignantly, "Why was the ointment wasted like that? For this ointment could have been sold for more than three hundred denarii and given to the poor." And they scolded her.

•In order for worship to be ‘wasteful’:
•It must be a sacrifice
•It must be extravagant
•It must be a genuine act of passion
