https://tinyurl.com/tfcquestionsI. Shouldn’t there be something more than just this massive letdown after the Christmas celebrations are over and done with? Well, for every follower of Jesus, the answer is “Yes!”
II. Even the N.T. writers seemed to expect something more to come; Jesus, Himself encouraged us to look for something more; He spoke often of His Kingdom, but it wasn’t an earthly kingdom! It’s almost like the fulfillment of His Kingdom and His promises come to us in two installments!
III. What we celebrate as Christmas brought the first installment, in which God sent His only Son, Jesus, our King, the One called Emmanuel, God with us! But more than 2,000 years have passed, and we’re still waiting for the second installment!
IV. Here’s my point in all of this: we’re still waiting, and our persistence in that waiting is the true spirit of the Christmas Season.
V. Who knows but what another 2,000 years may pass before He returns the second time?—but perhaps He could also return before this Service is over!
VI. Jesus once told a parable about the importance of waiting; He said that we should be like men waiting for their master to return from a wedding banquet, so that when he comes and knocks, they can immediately open the door for him.
VII. The point of that story is that we should be waiting and watching for Jesus to come, even if He comes at what seems to be a very late hour.
VIII.Just like the child who knows that the wait is going to be worth it, we must not stop our yearning for it! Keep waiting for the promise of eternal life! Keep waiting for Jesus to come! Make that waiting the most important preoccupation of your life!
IX. Expect something more, because there is something more, and when that something more happens, it will be worth whatever the waiting cost us!
