Word of the Year
Suggestions for choosing your Word of the Year:
1.? Take time to unplug and get away from the noise and distractions of everyday life. Ask yourself a few essential questions and then listen to God for answers. It is beneficial to write these things down.
•? What did God teach me last year about my life, my character, my purpose, and my relationship with Him?
• What do I sense God wants to do in and through me in 2018?
• What are some common themes or ideas He is revealing in my life?
2.? Make a list of possible words. Try them on, so to speak, and see if they resonate with what God is doing in your life. Sometimes you might want to take a few days to see how they fit. Spend some time in the Bible exploring your word. Do a word study. Pray over the word. Choose your word.
3.? Keep your word in a prominent place. Once you have chosen your word, write it on the "frame" included in the bulletin at church today. Keep it visible, as a reminder to you as you go through the year. Find related scriptures that you can memorize. Find books to read on the topic. Find creative ways to keep your word front and center.
4.? Journal what you learn during the year, and take opportunities often to share with others how God is using that word in your life.
Your word is ultimately between you and God. It is a tool for refocusing your perspective throughout the year. It can influence the type of goals you write, the choices you make, and the direction you take.
