Deeper Theme: Is there a hell? Does God destroy people in hell? Why should we fear God? So that he will not destroy us in hell?
Why can’t people kill the soul?
• Is the soul (psyche) immortal???
• Context: persecution – Matthew 10:16-22
• That’s all they can do: kill your body!!!

Doesn’t the human soul survive the body?
• Can the human being survive his own death?
• 7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being. (Genesis 2:7)
• Then the dust will return to the earth as it was, And the spirit will return to God who gave it. (Eccl. 12:7)

Who’s the one that can destroy both soul and body in hell and why should we fear him?
• God → “Fear God and fear nothing else!”

• Gehena ← Ge-Hinnom – Valley of Hinnom → place where they burned the rubbish of the city + dead bodies
• Symbol of the final judgment: lake of fire →eternal destruction: second death (Revelation 19:20; 20:10, 14, 15; 21:8)
