CONVERSATION STARTERS
Conversation Starters help us dig deeper, connecting Sunday’s sermons with our Monday lives. These prompts have been designed to help Community Groups grow in their relationship with God, with one another, and with their neighbors. Please know that these questions are meant to be a resource to you. You do not have to follow them verbatim or get through them all. We trust you to know your group and to ask the questions based on your group needs.

1) What stood out to you from the sermon? Feel free to re-read this short parable as a refresher.

2) The sermon identified the ways contempt can easily bubble up in our lives. Definition of contempt:Treating others with disrespect and mocking them with sarcasm or condescension. Is there a person/people in your life you speak (or write or text) this way about?

3) What does this behavior reveal to you about your heart?

4) Refer to Luke 18:13-14 and the account of the tax collector. Recognizing our sin is the gateway to finding hope! Is asking forgiveness a regular part of your prayer life? Why or why not?

5) Read Romans 3:21-26. What stands out to you in this passage in light of our discussion?

Pray as a group that God would give you humility to see your own sin and confess it, and give grace to others in light of all the grace He has given to us.

Prayer Requests

As a staff it is a privilege to pray for our congregation. Social distance does not change that! If you are in need of prayer click the link to fill out an online prayer request.

Romans 12:1-2

Title: How We Change
Scripture: Romans 12:1-2
Speaker: Taylor Fair, TaylorF@ChristCommunityKC.org
Worship is the arena in which God recalibrates our hearts, reforms our desires, and rehabituates our loves. Worship isn’t just something we do; it is where God does something to us. Worship is the heart of discipleship because it is the gymnasium in which God retrains our hearts. - James K.A. Smith, You Are What You Love
>> God uses every part of us to change us.
>> God uses our bodies to change us.
“Worship that is living, holy, and pleasing to God does not take place on some spiritual plane, but occurs through what we do with our physical bodies.” - Michael Bird, Romans
>> God also uses our minds to change us.
>> God uses our habits to change us.
Those who wish to influence us need not change our beliefs, that is, the thoughts of our conscious and deliberate slower brain; rather, they need to influence our faster brain, thus controlling our habits and actions. - Mark Sayers, Reappearing Church
>> Think of a memory:
- Name it
- 2 or 3 word title
- Relive it
- What did you feel?
- What might God be communicating through it?
- Repeat it
- Compile a list
- Spend 5 minutes every day
