“...God tells his people to ‘increase’ to retain their distinct community identity and to grow, but he also tells them to settle down and engage in the life of the great city….While living in Babylon, they are not simply to increase their tribe in a ghetto within the city; they are to use their resources to benefit the common good.” - Tim Keller

Date: Nov 12, 2017
Text: Jeremiah 29:1-14
Title: Flourishing in Exile

TAKE AWAY: How was your thinking concerning the place you live, your city, challenged or reshaped by this sermon?

SCRIPTURE: Reread Jeremiah 29:1-14. What do you find surprising about the words God gives to Jeremiah?

TRUSTING: Tom said, “God is either sovereign over all dimensions of reality or he is not the God of Holy Scriptures.” We all know we should trust God as sovereign over all but, it is often difficult to understand, and even more difficult to live out. What makes it so difficult? What does it look like to trust God as sovereign over all?

VOCATION: The words of Jeremiah call us to seek the common good, how do you see your vocation contributing to the common good of our community, city, and world?

NEXT STEPS: Tom gave us four takeaways for pursuing the common good (Live the Gospel well; Serve your family well; Do your work well; Love your city well). Is there one you do well? What are some practical ways you can grow one of these areas?

PRAY: Pray together for our city, our home, as we look toward the hope of our future home.
