This passage highlights the lasting legacies of Paul’s ministry in Ephesus and indeed, can be a model for those of us who would follow in Paul’s steps. The legacies were and are: (1) a personal example, (2) a preached Word, (3) a present surrender, (4) a prepared leadership, and (5) a powerful closing.
At the heart of the matter of texts and topics is the issue, What do you want to leave behind? What lasting legacy do you want to entrust to those who remain when you depart?
Would you want anyone to follow your personal example?
Do you have a high view of Scripture and is it authoritative in your life?
What is your life mission and how do you act on it daily?
Who will replace you and are they ready?
Have you endeared yourself to anybody through authentic living and relationships?
