PAIN ALWAYS PRECEEDS PROMOTION
Background: David fighting with Philistines, comes home to rest – NO. Amalekites have raided camp. Own people even turn on him.
*Ever been there?
- David was a man after God’s own heart
PSALM 63:11 NIV
But the king will rejoice in God; all who swear by God will glory in him, while the mouths of liars will be silenced.
Proverbs 18:16 – ESV
A man's gift makes room for him; and brings him before the great
- Don’t try to get to greatness without knowing your gift.
David got appointed to be Saul’s military advisor.
- But Saul got jealous of him and his success and turns on him.
Aint it funny how people will turn on you? – On the road to destiny.
- Sometimes you can’t tell your friends from your enemies.
- Today they love you – tomorrow they’re try’in to kill you. One day at your feet, the next day at your throat.
*David had to duck the Javelin – But still served – FAITHFULLY!
*David knew, according to the Prophet Samuel, he’d be king….
***THE CROWN WAS COMING – BUT HE DIDN’T KNOW WHEN OR HOW.***
So we find David dwelling in Ziklag with his army of God rough riders – living there for 1 ½ years.
There was no more significant than that portion of time in your spiritual Ziklag ….
- Ziklag changes your life.
- Ziklag becomes your steppin stone to destiny
What does Ziklag look like in your life?
A. Fighting the Philistines on the left of me (SAY IT)
B. Fighting the Amalekites on the right of me
- And then people in your own camp stop believing in you.
- David returns to Ziklag after a vicious battle with Israel’s’ archenemy the Philistines only to see the camp has been raided.
- No kids playing, no music, no bread-baking, no porridge being cooked, camp deserted, tents are empty.
- He sees that the Amalekites had been there (Vicious enemy – go after your weakness)
ZIKLAG IS THAT PLACE IN YOUR LIFE,
- While you’re fighting this over here, before you can even get through dealing with this, here comes another item called “that”.
ZIKLAG IS THAT SPIRITUAL PLACE,
1 Samuel 30:3 – 6
3 When David and his men reached Ziklag, they found it destroyed by fire and their wives and sons and daughters taken captive. 4 So David and his men wept aloud until they had no strength left to weep. 5 David’s two wives had been captured—Ahinoam of Jezreel and Abigail, the widow of Nabal of Carmel. 6 David was greatly distressed because the men were talking of stoning him; each one was bitter in spirit because of his sons and daughters. But David found strength in the Lord his God.
