We have doubted His promises - that
● God is Truth and in Him is no lie or nothing false - John 8:44; 1john 1:5
● God is with the upright and will save them in their time of distress (or being threatened) - Psalm 11:7; 16:11; 91:1-2; 119:159-161
● God loves the truth and hates lies - Proverbs 6:16-19; 13:5; 15:2; 1Cor 13:6
● When we walk in Truth we walk with and as God - Psalm 86:11; 1John 1:6-10; 3:18
● When we walk in untruth we have denied God’s truth and have reverted to the old way the world’s way and ways - Proverbs 29:27; 1Sam 15:24; John 12:43; Col 3:9
○ This world and its ways are
■ Contrary to God’s way - Galatians 5
■ Not our home and way- Hebrews 13:14; 2Cor 5:1; 1Peter 2:11-12

Ephesians 4:15, 21, 24, 25
14-16 “...we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming. 15Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ.16From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.
20That, however, is not the way of life you learned 21when you heard about Christ and were taught in him in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus.
25Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbor, for we are all members of one body.”
● That we can be assured that what happens here, according to the Truth, IS, or happens, according to God’s will - so live and speak the truth, in love (which, of course, IS God too) - Romans 8:28-39;
● We are not allowing God to do what He would do - to prove Himself faithful in this time and place - that He is faithful
○ To His Himself - Truth
○ To His children who walk in Truth
○ To act according to the Truth - proving Himself (to us and others) that
■ He is God
■ Truth is good
● Our faith needs maturing and the only way it grows is to obey the truth - having tested our faith by seeing and believing (even or especially in our unbelief) and putting ourselves out there - by doing or trusting - God = Truth
○ Every time we act on truth we are exercising and growing our faith
○ Every time we shrink back from truth we are stunting our faith
○ Every time we resist the lie for the sake of truth we commend our faith
○ Every time we give in to the lie instead of truth we condemn our faith

Side note.. John 8
“I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
42Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love me, for I have come here from God. I have not come on my own; God sent me.43Why is my language not clear to you? Because you are unable to hear what I say.44You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.45Yet because I tell the truth, you do not believe me!46Can any of you prove me guilty of sin? If I am telling the truth, why don’t you believe me?47Whoever belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God.”
That without our help, He can do in this thing, this time, what it is that needs to be
We are succumbing to our fear or desires
We ought to be truthful as a testimony to
● God and His faithfulness
● God and His word
● God and His righteousness in us

Doing an inventory:
● Where in my life am i presenting an untruth - or - something false? To whom? Why? What might i be afraid of? What would keep me from telling the truth? What do i need to do to rectify this?
● Where in my life am i presenting a version of me that is not true?
○ To whom? Why?
○ What or who am I afraid of? Why?
○ What lie have I believed that makes me afraid of others?
○ What truth must I learn, believe, and be reminded of to combat it?
● Forms of telling falsehoods:
○ Lies, untruths, fabrications, injustice, bigotry, prejudice, biases - refusals to see truth or what is true
○ God does not, cannot, will not - love, forgive, receive, care…
○ Complaining, murmuring, grumbling, accusing, gossip, slander, name-calling
Become someone to whom another would dare be truthful, or, not (have to) be afraid to be truthful
We can make it difficult for someone to tell us the truth - by
● Our general demeanor - do not appear to be nice or kind
● Being consistently argumentative
● Being contentious
● How we receive the truth
○ Angry
○ Accusatory
○ Not letting go
○ Belittling
○ Excessively or unreasonably defensive or even going on the offensive
● Putting up in front of us our moral standards and expectations
Becoming one who speaks and tells truth
● Know the truth
● Believe the truth
● Believe the power of truth - to bring freedom and healing
● Trust the Truth - because it is the breath of the Truth Giver
● Trust God that He blesses truth
● Grow in love for God, Truth, others and what God and Truth do in and for the lives of self and others
● Desire and find truth and truth telling as bringing life and freedom
Becoming one to whom someone speaks truth
● Be humble and teachable
● Be gracious and kind
● Be willing and receptive
● Do not be afraid of loving confrontation and conflict
● Do not be afraid of change and growth
● Desire Christlikeness
Is it ever right to present a falsehood?
- Midwives in Egypt - Exodus 1:15-21
- Rahab and the spies from Israel - Joshua 2:5
- David feigns insanity - 1Sam 21; Psalms 33&34
- Corrie ten Boom during WWll
These are rare and exceptional times and even in these instances, God is silent as to whether He is “blessing” or approving of these tactics, though saving the lives of others, He allows.
