Text: Jeremiah 1:1-10; 12:5
Title: It's Too Much
ICE BREAKER: If you had a fantasy to get away and escape it all, where would be your fantastical destination? Where would you escape life and get away to?
REFRAMING: “God doesn’t give us more than we can handle?” We’ve all heard this cliche at some point or another. However we’ve learned that Jeremiah’s call was too much for him to handle. Why do you think this cliche been so popular? In what contexts have you heard it most?
SCRIPTURE: Naya highlighted the reality that Jeremiah is being called to a task that is too big too much to accomplish. Are there any other stories from scripture that follow a similar pattern of God calling people to a task too big for them to accomplish on their own? Why might this be a common pattern?
REFLECTION: Naya said that one of the things we can do when life is too much is run towards the wilderness; to run towards the hard. What stops you from running towards the wilderness? Is it comfort? Fear? Lack of resources?
LOOKING AHEAD: The sort of life we have been talking about is characterized by risk and sacrifice. God calls us to a life too big, one that can’t be accomplished without His presence. Where in your life might God be calling you into risk and sacrifice, and how do you remind yourself of God’s presence along the way?
PRAYER: Pray together for boldness and courage in the face of a life that too often seeks comfort instead of facing God-sized opportunities.
