Scripture: Jeremiah 1:1-10; 12:5
Speaker: Tyler Chernesky, TylerC@ChristCommunityKC.org

>> What do we do when it feels like life’s too much?
>> God has plan for you.
>> God speaks to him and God comes close.
>> God doesn’t give us more than He can handle.
>> When life seems like it’s too much, God’s inviting us to see that He’s enough.

Title: That's Too Much

Chasing Comfort: If we are honest, most of us seek to avoid pain and seek comfort. (In fact, there are other religions completely built upon this premise). While that isn’t always a bad thing, what dangers could you identify for someone who views the goal of Christianity this way?
Blind spots or pitfalls for new believers?
Blind spots or pitfalls for veteran believers?
Blind spots or pitfalls for you personally?

God or Comfort: There is a quote which asks, “Do I desire God or comfort and the blessings He provides? If I seek anything less than God Himself than this is idolatry.” How does this relate with the sermon? In what ways are you guilty of idolatry?

Big Idea - “If you think you can handle your life you’re doing it wrong!”
Take time to discuss what this big idea means
What are ways you personally struggle in thinking you can do it yourself?
Brainstorm ideas of how you can give yourself tangible reminders that you are not self-sufficient. And that you need God or you will fail.
Ideas: memorizing a verse. Writing a quote on your mirror or as your screen-saver. Fasting. Prayers of Confession. A token/charm to remind you. etc
-Take time now to pick one of these ideas and try practicing it for this next week. Be specific but also not unrealistic in your goals. And if you fail - what a reminder in it and of itself that you need God and His help!
Next community group discuss how it went.

Pick three: Tyler’s three points were: “Its worse than you think / It’s harder if you’re His / it’s better than you can imagine.” Talk about which of these stood out to you the most and why?

What is God asking? Read Tyler’s statement and answer his questions: “If you consider yourself a Christian and God has never asked you to do anything hard, you’re not listening! So ask yourself - what does my world require of me? What is God asking?”

Race with Horses: “God wants a life for us that’s impossible. That demands faith. Takes risks. Makes sacrifices. And brings hope. Because only then will we see God’s strength.”
Take time now with your group to discuss places in your life where you need to race with horses (taking risks and making sacrifices) so that you cannot do it without God.
Some of you are in the midst of racing with the horses right now. Instead of asking for more. Spend time voicing your needs to the group. (You can complain to God! - just look at the Psalms and the life of David).

Prayer: As a group pray for...
-Boldness to race with the horses
-Comfort for those who are hurting and overwhelmed
-For any specific action steps you committed to
-Anything else that comes to mind.
