A Storm is Coming - Are you Prepared?
Pastor Eddie Turner
Sunday, May 1, 2016

Matt. 7:21-27(NKJV) - “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in your name, cast out demons in your name, and done many wonders in your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you who practice lawlessness!’
24 “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: 25 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.
26 “But everyone who hears these sayings of mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: 27 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.”
-------------------------------
Brokenness, unexpected crisis, accidents, crippling medical diagnosis, traumatic difficulties and family hardships are everywhere.
-------------------------------------------------------
John 16:33(NKJV) - These things I have spoken to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”
-------------------------------
The word “tribulation” literally means “distress.” It comes from the word which means a pressing or pressure of anything that burdens our spirits.
-------------------------------
John 16:33(NLT) - I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”
--------------------------------
· Being a Christian and accepting Jesus as Lord and Savior does not exempt us from the storms of life!
--------------------------------
Matt. 7:24-27(NKJV)-24 “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: 25 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.
26 “But everyone who hears these sayings of mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: 27 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.”
----------------------------------------------------------
Notice Jesus didn’t say:
Whoever hears these sayings of mine and does them; you are going to be exempt from the storms of life
--------------------------------------------------------
Life’s difficulties, disappointments, betrayals, tragedies and unexpected hardships come to all of us.
---------------------------------------------------------
A multitude of things can happen to create extreme difficulties in our life. And whatever it may be-the purpose of that storm is to discourage you, steal your peace and rob you of your dream and vision.
--------------------------------------------------------
1). Realize Life’s Storms are Looking to Explode on You:
--------------------------------
Psalm 34:19(NKJV) - Many are the afflictions of the righteous, But the Lord delivers him out of them all.
--------------------------------
Psalm 34:19(NLT) - The righteous person faces many troubles, but the Lord comes to the rescue each time.
--------------------------------
Isaiah 43:1-2(NLT) - But now, O Jacob, listen to the Lord who created you. O Israel, the one who formed you says,do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you.
I have called you by name; you are mine. 2 When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you.
--------------------------------
Psalm 23:4-5(NKJV)- Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You arewith me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. 5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;you anoint my head with oil; my cup runs over.
--------------------------------
Mark 4:16-17(NKJV)- These likewise are the ones sown on stony ground who, when they hear the word, immediately receive it with gladness; 17 and they have no root in themselves, and so endure only for a time. Afterward, when tribulation or persecution arises for the word’s sake, immediately they stumble.
--------------------------------
1Peter 5:8(NKJV) - Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.
--------------------------------
The word “sober” means “wake up and see things clearly.”
The word “vigilant” means “stay awake-be alert, be on guard”
--------------------------------
2). Since We Know Life’s Storms Will Come- Preparation is a Must:
-----------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------
· When life’s storms come our way, and they are coming, the key to survival is the foundation our life is built upon.
----------------------------------------------------------
Matt. 7:24(NKJV) - “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock:
----------------------------------------------------------
Matt. 16:13-18(NLT) - When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?”14 “Well,” they replied, “some say John the Baptist, some say Elijah, and others say Jeremiah or one of the other prophets.”
15 Then he asked them, “But who do you say I am?”16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”
17 Jesus replied, “You are blessed, Simon son of John, because my Father in heaven has revealed this to you. You did not learn this from any human being. 18 Now I say to you that you are Peter (which means ‘rock’), and upon this rock I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it.
---------------------------------
· The spiritual foundation that we should build our life upon is the rock of revelation that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
-------------------------------------------------------------
· Our spiritual foundation is only as strong as our knowledge of and obedience to the Word of God.
----------------------------------
Matt. 7:24(NKJV) - “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock:
----------------------------------
· Only a storm can reveal the type of foundation a house is built upon. Likewise the same is true concerning our lives.
-------------------------------------------------------------
· Storm preparation can only be effectively done in fair weather. If you wait till the storm comes to prepare you have waited too long.
----------------------------------
Mark 4:18-19(NKJV)- Now these are the ones sown among thorns; they are the ones who hear the word, and the cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things entering in choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.
----------------------------------
· The challenge of storm preparation is that you must prepare for it when you don’t need it.
----------------------------------
John Osteen- “if you will put God’s word in you when you don’t need it. The Holy Spirit will be faithful to bring it out of you when you do need it.”
----------------------------------
· When Christ lives on the inside it doesn’t exempt us from the storms of life-Christ on the inside enables us to overcome the storms and difficulties of life!
------------------------------
1 John 5:4-5(NKJV) - For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. 5 Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?
----------------------------------
1John 5:4-5 (NLT) - For every child of God defeats this evil world, and we achieve this victory through our faith.5 And who can win this battle against the world? Only those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God.
