We will take the church van both days. Please sign up in the lower foyer if you are able to join us! This is a great opportunity to bring along a friend!

KIDS MOVIE NIGHT
We have scheduled a kids popcorn and movie night for Friday, Oct 6 at 7:00 pm. This is open to the public so be sure to invite all your children’s friends. Parents are also encouraged to stay!

SEE YOU AT THE POLE
Every year, students and parents from every school across the country gather around their school’s flag pole to pray for their school, teachers and the students. This year’s SYATP day is Wed. Sept 27. Please check with your school as to the time. Our schools are in dire need of prayer and God’s blessings. Please be sure to be a part of this event. The theme this year is “Fix Your Eyes” (Heb 12:2).

KIDS FUN NIGHT
We will be celebrating a “Kid’s Fun Night” this Thursday, Sept 21 from 6-8 pm. We’re planning to have a bounce house, games, prizes, skits music and more. Come celebrate the Lord and all He is doing. If you would like more information, contact Michelle or Brad.

“IS GENESIS HISTORY?”
Beginning Wed. Sept 20 and running for approximately 3-4 weeks, we will be showing the Feature film / documentary “Is Genesis History”? It is a look at the biblical, historical and scientific evidence for creation and the flood. We will hear from dozens of scientists and scholars as they explore the world around us in light of the truth of Genesis. If you know someone who doubts the biblical account, this is a perfect opportunity to invite them to see it from the other side. There will be discussion before and after each viewing

BODY NEWS

FIRST RESPONDERS DAY
We are in the beginning stages of planning this event. If you would like to help, sign up in the lower foyer.

COLLEGE STUDENT MINISTRY
It’s that time of year again! We would like to bless and provide small tokens of our love and appreciation for all our college students. Instead of donating specific items, we want to give them gift cards so they can purchase exactly what they need. Please give any gift card or cash donations (we will purchase the gift cards) to Anna, Pastor Jeff or Gladys. Thank you for contributing to this ministry!

MEDICARE OPEN ENROLLMENT
We have been contacted by the York County Area on Aging to promote their free program on how to navigate the Medicare process. If you are in doubt as to the whole Medicare procedure, there is information on the table outside the upstairs nursery.

POST ABORTION RECOVERY
Human Life Services is offering a faith-oriented recovery group for all those who have been through an abortion. If you know someone who could benefit from this counseling, there is information on the Women’s table in the Upper Foyer.

“THE BOLD & THE SANCTIFIED”
A Christian play is coming to The Forum in Harrisburg on Sat. Oct 21 at 7:30 pm. It features a friend of Pastor Jeff and Anna’s. Here is the written description:

A small ‘black’ church and a small ‘white’ church combine congregations for financial reasons. Racial conflict and tension ensue from the very beginning. From the choir to the pulpit to even the usher board – EVERYTHING is affected by the union and the question that looms the entire play.

If you would like to attend this play, please sign up at the Women’s table in the Upper Foyer. General Admission tickets are $25. Deadline for sign up is Sept 24.

Last week...

Last week, Pastor Jeff talked about the death of Saul and David's anointing as the king, as well his first mission to unify Israel.

hey
David’s enemies were gone, he was crowned king and accepted by both Judah and Israel.

Jerusalem was the now the capital, David had more children, he defeated the Philistines in battle.

Things were going very well for him.

So he decides this is the next logical step.
The Ark was captured by the Philistines when Eli was the Judge. They returned it but it went to the house of Abinadab for safe keeping.

If you know the law, you’ll know that the Ark was meant to be in the holy of holies, not in a house somewhere.

David thinks to himself, we need to bring it back.
Nowhere in either accounts does it say that David asked God. This version assumes that God is ok with it, but it doesn’t say he inquired of the Lord.

It just sounded like the right thing to do.

We will be faced with situations that seem right and sound good. Sounds almost like if we don’t do it, we’re fools -- things that just seem like a no brainer.

But David’s fatal flaw wasn’t that he wanted to disobey God. He just didn’t ask.
James tell us to consistently ask for wisdom. Why?

God knows what is up ahead and will give us insight as to His way to handle the situation.
The goal was good but he disregarded God’s method for moving the ark.

God had already prescribed his method for moving the ark.

a) Those who handled the ark had to be Levites. (Numbers 1:50-51)
b) No one was permitted to touch the ark. (Numbers 4:15)
In his zeal to do something for God, David totally disregarded God’s way.

He didn’t pray about it. Had he prayed about it, God would have told him yes or no and if yes, how to do it.

His zeal to accomplish this task, he looked at the worldly methods to accomplish Godly things.

We cannot use the world’s wisdom and methods to accomplish spiritual goals.
In Numbers 4 it gives great detail about how to move everything.

About the ark, it says...
hey

If you remember your Raiders of the Lost Ark movie, men were to carry it using poles that ran through rings on each of the 4 corners.

God’s work has to be done in God’s way in order to have God’s blessing.

Just because all the leaders thought it was a great idea, doesn’t mean it’s right.
It was a tremendous time of worship. They were engaged in singing and playing instruments and having a good old time, but all the while, God was not in it.

It’s easy to get caught up in the emotion of the moment and to equate our excitement with a move of God.

We have to be careful that our excitement and emotions do not over take the truth of God’s word.

All their singing and praising was not true worship because what they were doing was against God’s word.
Threshing floors were places of sanctity. Or a holy site.

David later bought a threshing floor to sacrifice to God.
Just being in a church doesn’t excuse doing things in a worldly manner. In fact, it should be just the opposite.

God’s house should be places where God’s ways are followed regardless of personal likes and dislikes.
There are a few examples of where God takes extreme measure to ensure His place is holy.
God’s house needs to be run God’s way. He has set parameters and guidelines for our lives as well.

Popularity and general consensus most often do not reflect God’s plan.

One thing of note here: It doesn’t say if Uzzah just didn’t know God’s word or if he acted out of irreverence.

In either case the result is the same - God killed him.
Ignorance of the law is no excuse. The law is the law whether you know it is or not. You break it, you’re guilty.

We can never claim that we didn’t know God’s word.

If you think that by not knowing God’s word gives you a reason to not obey it, you’re wrong.
One other note:

David was in charge and he either told or allowed Uzzah to carry the Ark.

It was David’s original sin of not asking God that ultimately got Uzzah killed.

Sins that we commit may affect others more negatively that it does us. Our disobedience may inflict hardships and pain on those around us, especially if you are a leader in their lives.

Your actions are not only affecting you. But those around you.
David got mad at the wrong person. Blaming God for his bad choice.

When we sin and something bad happens, who is to blame? Not God.

Go allows us to suffer the results of our choices. He doesn’t cause them.

At the beginning I said that when I read this I feel upset and fearful.

Why? Upset because David’s sin caused this guy to get killed.

But it also lets me know that God is holy and righteous and I better not treat Him otherwise.
God needs to remind His people that His word needs to be obeyed.

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.

Fearing God (reverential trust) gives you wisdom.
God is not to be treated like your home boy. He is the God of the universe.

We need to fear God and obey his word so that we don't end up like Uzzah...
