Stop Being Unequally Yoked!
2 Corinthians 6:14-7:1

2 Corinthians 5:19-20
“That is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.”

Acts 1:8
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

2 Corinthians 6:14-7:1
“Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? What accord has Christ with Belial? Or what portion does a believer share with an unbeliever? What agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; as God said, ‘I will make my dwelling among them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Therefore go out from their midst, and be separate from them, says the Lord, and touch no unclean thing; then I will welcome you, and I will be a father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to me, says the Lord Almighty.’Since we have these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of body and spirit, bringing holiness to completion in the fear of God.”

What does it mean?

Deuteronomy 22:10
“You shall not plow with an ox and a donkey together.”

For Christians it means not to be connected with unbelievers to:
- walk the same direction
- work toward the same goal
- be “yoked” to unbelievers while being “yoked” to Christ
- be pulled by what they are being pulled by

Why is it important?

Because the Lord commands it! (v.14)

1 John 2:2-3
“He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world. And by this we know that we have come to know him, if we keep his commandments.”

Because our new life requires it! (v.14-16)

Because our power to live life as a Christian depends on it.

Matthew 11:29-30
“Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

How do we do it?

Here is the bottom line:
The immediate application of this command is—stop engaging in intimate relationships with unbelievers!

How?

Make our relationship with God the determining factor in every other relationship!

Lean on the promises of God to give us the courage to pursue holiness.

2 Corinthians 7:1
"Since we have these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of body and spirit, bringing holiness to completion in the fear of God."
